Loha Prasat... In the night..., a photo from Bangkok, Central

Photographer's Note

To build up my Bangkok monuments in the night theme, I got this view of Loha Prasat (metal palace)... Its spires are made of cast iron and are beautiful at anytime...
I learned here that to get a star effect on lamps I have to go up tof22... but I shot this one some days before learning...!!! I still got some 'starrish' effect on some lights ;D

Salut Laurent,

Il est vrai que tu obtiendras des 彋oiles � f/22, mais 諘 fonctionne aussi � f/16.

Est-ce que tu t𨬓s fait attaquer par des chiens autour de ce temple?... Ce f壻 mon cas et 諘 m𠿟 pr廧ar� pour le reste du voyage, pendant lequel j𠿟i subi 3 attaques, dont une avec 7 chiens...

Premi鋨ement, j𠿟i 彋� attir� par la silhouette � la fen皻re, un peu comme dans le film d𣸱itchcock et le motel Bates... Sauf qu㠙ci, on parle d𠌊n temple, alors j㠙magine qu㠙l s𠿟git d𠌊n moine bienveillant.

Lorsque la nuit est aussi avanc嶪 et que la 剎lue hour� est disparue, il est essentiel d𠿟voir acc鋊 � des lumi鋨es d𠿟ppoint et c𨬓st ce que tu as trouv� autour de ce temple, o� tous les 幨幦ents architecturaux sont illumin廥.

Belle pr廥entation de Loha Prasat 'by night' o� l'on peut bien voir les d彋ails architecturaux gr歊e � la bonne exposition. L'effet des 彋oiles est quand m瘱e l� et je suis sure que la prochaine fois, tu feras encore mieux :) J'aime beaucoup l'inclusion des fleurs, les couleurs et le cadrage.

Salut Laurent,
Je vois que tu persistes dans tes essais de photos nocturnes. C'est s壜 que pour l'effet 彋oile il vaut mieux diaphragmer un peu plus, en g幯廨al � partir de f/11 ou f/16 c'est d嶴� pas mal. J'aime bien ton cadrage qui montre la partie sup廨ieure du palais dont la fa蓷de claire se d嶰oupe parfaitement sur ce ciel sombre. Les fleurs rouges dans l'angle font 嶲alement un bon premier plan. Je pense que la prochaine fois tu pourras faire un essai � f/22 et en y allant un poil plus t矌 histoire d'avoir un ciel moins sombre.

Bonjour laurent, pour les 彋oiles � f22 tout est une question de go壻, et dans ce ciel bien noir de petite lumi鋨e rapproch嶪 sont certainement mieux � propos que de grosses lumi鋨es en 彋oiles qui viendrai interf廨er les unes dans les autres et contrariant la pl幯itude d𠌊n faible interstice qu㠙l y entre toutes ces pointes 幦ergent du b漮iment, b漮iment qui soit-dit en passant est propos� de fa蔞n originale ou beaucoup de d彋ail sont visible, bien amicalement

Ol� Laurent, another very successful night shot. The composition is very good and I really like the presence and effect of the lights on this one, as I think they give us a better understanding of the monument, marking the top of the spires, especially the perspectived line at left. No 'blue hour' at all in this one ;-) Beautiful image.

Good light control here Laurent where you manage to have fine details of the illuminted building. Effectful use fot eh white lamps combined with inclusion of the foreground building.

It's a gorgeous view of that wonderful monument. You did a splendid job with the compo and the light adjustment. Somehow I find those flowers on the fg not only nice, but also important, because I always associate Thailand with flowers. All those triangles, both physical and made with the lights that look like a constellation of stars are also beautiful. It's amazing how you managed to avoid excessive oe on the bright walls and have appreciable detail on the dark areas.
Since you have used a tripod, it would have been wiser to use a tighter diaphragm so you had more dof, namely to put the flowers in focus.

Your exposure level is perfect for this impressive night shot. The star efect on the lamps really carries high impact. I also like the clarity of detail on the facade and the foreground upper building portions works well, together with the colourful bushes on the left. T'as r徼ssi une belle nocturne avec un tr鋊 bon contr犨e de l'exposition, la balance des blancs est tr鋊 bien 廦uilibr嶪.
Si tu veux un effet skylight plus prononc� il existe un filtre Cokin sp嶰ialement con蓰 pour cet effet.

Hi Laurent - this seems to recall (n a more oriental way) the cathedrals of europe, the lighting is quite good, but this one would definitely have been better in the blue hour.

Tr廥 r徼ssis les petits points de lumi鋨e au sommet des petits clochetons, m瘱e s'ils n'ont effectivement pas toujours un aspect tr廥彋oil� sauf pour quelques uns (notament le grand clocher). Un ciel tr廥 noir mais qui met bien en valeur les couleurs du batiment. Je me pose des questions sur le feuillage sur la gauche sans avoir encore d'opinion sur le sujet.

Qu'elle est etonnant celle-la. Bien sur en ragrdant les toits il n'y a pas de doute c'est bangkok, mais au premier regard, ces lumieres artificielles et la couleur du building ont quelque couse de ... germanique. Enfin c'est ce que j'ai attrape au premier regard. Sinon j'aime beaucoup aussi l'aspect "etoile" des lumieres au sommet de chaque tourelle. Une image vraiment feerique. Bravo.

When I visited this place, last October, it was under renovation though I did climb up to the terrace to catch a great bird's eye view of Bangkok. It seems that the renovation has paid off as it looks gorgeous under the lights. Perfect exposure.

Laurent, that is certainly a very beautiful view and you did a really nice job with this nocturne photography, although I'm sure that a blue hour would have been nice too. Ths time I want to comment on something that you noticed too. My first impression that this was a shot with a high f/. I saw the star lamps and was sure about the technical background. I was completely surprised to see a f/5.6. Interesting!

Great night view of this palace, well composed. I like all these richly decorated spires and the many lights. The inclusion of the tree in the bottom left hand corner was good too. Very good work!
