Photographer's Note

Everywhere you turn in Khiva Ichan Kala;
main streets, back streets, there's something interesting to catch the eye.

Just a small view of shadowy passage of the old city ringed entirely by its ancient 10m high adobe walls, and a vital resting place for caravans preparing to cross the hostile Kyzyl Kum Desert to Bukhara and Samarkand in ancient times.

The site is crammed with historic buildings and regarded as an excellent example of central Asian Islamic architecture whose bands of blue tile and brown-coloured brick have an ancient air - which is an absolute highlight here.

Setting: 190 mm, 1/125 sec, F5.6, ISO Raw 200, 1350 hrs

Hello Abmdsudi,
A well chosen point of view that gives us a taste for this fascinating architecture. I am a bit ambivalent about the presence of the two men; they help provide scale but they also tend to draw the eyes away from the lovely architecture. Well exposed; superb rendering of the colours and decorative detail.

Hello Abmdsudi,
Blue tiles are often used in islamic architecture. Even predominantly in Iran and Uzbekistan, I believe.
But blue bricks are very unusually if I'm not mistaken.
A wonderful passage here between the different historic buildings.

Hello Abmdsudi, having never been to this part of the world, I view with interest the shots that you share.
The two men as well as providing scale are a good focal point as they walk between the pillars of this ancient building.

these blue bricks remind me those I found in british museun showing ancient civilizations in persia, I imagine the tradition of these ones came from those times. nice view with the personages ahead. TFS.
