Photographer's Note

.

Finally, last month I've got the first night staying in HOI AN Ancient Town the primary pivotal destination where most of foreign travelers selected to come for their once-in-lifetime visit. And this is what I saw as standing on the Cam Nam Bridge looking down the milky Thu Bon River where local people gathering toward the wharf behind main market.

Good morning, Hội An!
Finally, I made it!

I first came to Hoi An in March 1968 after the Mau Than War, with my aunt to pick up my uncle's corpse after he got killed in action during an ambush just outside of town where soldiers of South Korean's Blue Dragon Division and local VC maintained their daily bloody fight and ran the body count every morning. I didn't stay in Hoi An that night.

In 1972, a schoolmate of mine who was a naval officer of the Southern military stationed here on this river. On the way back from one of my fieldtrips to the battle, I've asked the pilots of the 239th Tactical Squadron to land the helicopter here so we could meet and have a drink. That evening, my friend advised me and the crew to leave because the presence of the aircraft would invite enemy's attack.

After "April-30, 1975", from Danang I returned to Hoi An almost daily to search and buy used motocycles for resale to make the living. Still, after those many years, I hadn't been lucky enough to spend a night in this lovely town.

This time, I made it!
Please forgive for my childish excitement...
