Mellow Yellow, a photo from Quang Nam, South Central Coast

Photographer's Note

What a contrast between dreary Halong and cheerful Hoi An.

Even the most decayed wall in town screams its warmest welcome for photography. If ever yellow color is not to your taste, I advise you to skip Hoi An.

I must have photographed every Hoi An citizen against that wall... this wall is the U Bein bridge of VN, and as always, the biker gets the grand prize.

J'imagine bien ce qui te d廨ange � Halong...je suis bien triste de n'avoir pu voir cet endroit avant que ce soit bousill� par le tourisme de masse. Cette photo ci est superbe...ce mur est plus que photog幯ique et cette femme � byciclette rend le tableau parfait...

J𠿟ime beaucoup ca.
Ce qui marche pour moi ici en dehors du dynamisme de la sc鋝e, c𨬓st la fa蔞n dont tu as cadr� ta sc鋝e, on dirait r嶪llement que le v幨o va nous arriver dans la tronche.
Niveau couleurs, j𠿟ccroche beaucoup, beaucoup m瘱e, je ne savais m瘱e pas qu㠙l existait autant de sortes de jaunes diff廨ents avant d侊uvrir cette image.
Si il faut aussi citer des d嶨auts, j0en citerai 2 petits�
La l嶲鋨e surex sur le chapeau (mais ca, on s𨬓n branle carr幦ent)�
Par contre, ce qui me d廨ange peut 皻re un petit peu plus, c𨬓st le coin de ciel blanc-gris qui attire l�il vers le coin gauche, et ce, dans le sens contraire de la lecture�
Je pense que je me serais lanc� dans une retouche hasardeuse afin de cloner un bout du mur et fermer d嶨initivement ce cadre�
Sinon, c𨬓st du tout beau �

Very effective angle Luko, I like the tones of yellow, look very good, I would have liked the cropping a bit lower to include her feet and the center of the front wheel, beautiful work nevertheless..

what amazing scenery. Wonderful combination of old-time bicycle in very aged traditional environment. I like the composition and the wide angle lenses slight distorsion that emphasises the yellow perspective. I like it very much.

Je ne sais pas pourquoi j'ai le sentiment de t'avoir connu plus prolifique avec les Note du photographe. Ces derniers temps, on dirait que tu th廥aurises des mots pour faire toute la place � l'image mais j'imagine bien que ce n'est que parce que tu les as d嶴� tous utilis廥 pour r嶮iger ton courrier de demandes au P鋨e No螔. Et oui, c'est bien le maillot jaune du jour dans cette grande aventure qu'est le Tour de Hoi An. Aucune comparaison avec des cyclistes dop廥 aux st廨o骾es et emball廥 dans des moules burnes: place ici � la bonne vieille ferraille (va savoir, entre le v幨o et le mur, lequel est en meilleur 彋at) et au charme conique du p嶮alo-viet.

As you say, the wall is fabulous to the photgraphers eye. I could imagine myself standing there waiting for all and sundry to pass. YOu have captured the essence so well, the textures of the crumbling paintwork, the cyclist in her matching yellow shirt, all rendered in mellow colours.

perfect shot thats really all i can say .. amazing colors its amazing how the way you look thru ur camera dramaticaly changes a street that you wouldnt even want to walk on into this.

Luko, this is great; I think you best in quite some time. I am sure that part of the reason I like it is because of its similarity to the Malspina Biker photo of yours which I am so fond of. Not that it is at all identical and you have at least one other shot where the composition is much closer, but I am caught in how the bottom of the wheels are cropped and something else which I can't quite put my finger on. Anyways, I really like it and I also really like the yellow tones throughout the shot; from the walls, her shirt, her scarf and even the hat to a small degree. I also like how you have broken the rule about having a moving subject not going out of the frame; it works in this case. Really nice shot.

Quintessential VN shot here. A study in textures and shades of yellow 8which is more faded the peeling wall or her shirt?) The bike is perfectly placed (paced) within the frame and the whole thing has that by now distinctive 24-105mm (when it is behaving) +5D feel.

Hello Luko,
c'est peut-皻re le U Bein Vietnamien en terme photog幯ique mais je ne pense pas qu'il y ait des centaines de photographes aux alentours ici.
D'ailleurs je crois que c'彋ais � U Bein que j'ai vu le sp嶰imen le plus int廨essant.
蓷 devait 皻re un Japonais avec 3 ou 4 gros DSLR (genre 1Ds) autour du cou avec des optiques L.
Bon je m'嶲are... Ta photo est superbe, j'aime beaucoup ce mur d嶰r廧it et ces teintes jaunes. Les volets entrouverts sont parfaitement plac廥.
Cadrage tr鋊 dynamique bien s壜... Il me semble que la surex du chapeau est rattrapable avec un RAW... Mais bon, chez Canon vous n'avez pas le magnifique Nikon Capture :)

Une photo choc avec ce velo qui deboule dans le cadre, c'est tr鋊 bien mener, comme d'hab..
Les couleurs sont vraiment top.

Oh que c'est beau et bien pens�. Cette chemise jaune sur ce mur jaune-pisseux cradingue qui est en lui-m瘱e un vrai tableau.
Le cadrage est bien fait.

Colorwise this is an absolutely fantastic photo. Sorry for the awe (the same goes for Barca Velha...) but the truth is that this photo of yours is so good that every soul that consider you a better writer than a fine photographer must definitely take a look at this. OK, we all know the Vietnamese yellow walls by now. Be it for your past ones or for Francis wonderful efforts. But throwing that wonderful golden shirt bursting with such a divine light in front of our eyes was so clever, so sensitive and so good. The dense richness of the blacks on the bike and those open windows on the back do the rest. I am going to still these to my favorites if you don't mind. Thanks

Nice work, the composition is great, i really like the crop of the bicycle wheels, it seems to pull the bicyclist towards me. The deep background leaves a feeling of closure, that the bicyclist has put much behind her and is riding on.

Ici tout semble aussi 皻re hors des normes classiques de la composition, et pourtant le r廥ultat est tellement fort. Elle me donne l'envie de reconsid廨er un voyage au Vietnam. Je sais que le pont U Bein est en Birmanie,

Well, this is more like it Luko! Lot's of detail, sharpness and 'dynamism'! I like how the cyclist is riding out of the frame and good god what a beautiful wall that is. I'm looking at a vacation next month somehwere in SE Asia and this photo could alter my plans!

Pour la tienne, superbe fond et superbe sujet, on ne pouvait pas rever mieux, sauf un beau ciel bleu peut-etre... Sympa la petite ouverture sur le ciel qui evite de nous faire etouffer, superbe prise...

Les contrastes dechirent bien ici, elle se fondrait presque dans le decor si elle mn'etait pas a bicyclette. J'espere qu'il ne renoveront pas les murs, ca fait le charme de Hoi An ca !
Mai comment t'as fait pour l'avoir sous cet angle, a bicyclette toi aussi avec l'appareil sur la hanche ?

Just had a look through your terrific gallery, Luko, and liked this one and Off the wall. The composition/crop leaving the subject partly cut off and just about to leave the frame is really very effective in this wide angle shot at very high speed. The wall is a good one, no doubt, and the whole scene is enhanced by your PP, giving that yellowish tone that some others have noted. A shot that is both very sharp and dynamic at the same time.

Tres belle photo... Les couleurs sont superbes et l'彋at de delabrement du mur apporte une atmosphere intemporelle tres agr嶧ble... Dommage que le bout de ciel visible � gche soit si blanc mais comme souvent dans les photos... Felicitations...
