Little church in Theth, a photo from Shkoder, North

Photographer's Note

My father spoke Albanian, now no one in my family is left who can speak a dialect that was kept alive for 300 years, the time when my Albanian forefathers left their villages in order to keep their religion against a wave of conversion to Islam. Now the majority of Albanians are Muslim and in the mountain regions where the Turks did not make successful incursions, there are still little villages that have kept their Christian heritage. This scene is from the village of Theth, in the Shala mountains, a few hours drive on impossible mountain roads from the city of Skoder.

You've been off the beaten track Klaudio.
A very atmospheric photo with it's cute little church and hazy mountains. Must be interesting going to Albania to check out your roots.

Ciao Klaudio,sei prorpio finito "in culo ai lupi" per mostrarci questo piccolo villaggio dell'entroterra di Scutari. Ho molti amici albanesi nel mio bar a cui ho mostrato la foto,ed in tanti non sapevano nemmeno dell'esistenza di questo posto. Un post quindi davvero utile che mostra qualcosa di assolutamente nuovo e gradevole,la sensazione di pace � fantastica. Buona serata,Luciano

I have been to Shkoder & Komani and enjoyed the lack of tourist hordes, the low prices and the friendly people. The small church at right makes a fine focal point. Good sharpness and rugged mountains. Tfs!

Hello Klaudio,

I discover that there are some christian villages in Albania . What a pretty little rural church . The whole composition is interesting and beautiful , despite of the quite poor lighht .

This image brings back so many memories! Especially when you mention that drive through the mountains which I did on 1 November and subsequently got stuck in Theth longer than expected...
I was trying to figure out where you took the photo from. The shape of the church is nicer from this side than in my shots. The cow in the foreground is a nice touch!
