Hohenwerfen Castle

There are a few pictures of the castle on TE, but there is no view from the top. This is not the image drone :)

The mighty castle of Hohenwerfen has towered over the 155 metre high craggy rock pillar above the Salzachtal valley for more than 900 years. The powerful fortifications were built at the same time as Hohensalzburg Fortress and are some of the best preserved late medieval defences and rooms on the continent. Over the centuries they have seen countless attacks and sieges.

The castle is surrounded by the Berchtesgaden Alps and the adjacent Tennengebirge mountain range.

In 1968 the castle served Hollywood as a backdrop in the feature film Where Eagles Dare with Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton. I watched the movie several times

beautiful! you got the perfect height and pov to make this one stand out among all the other shots of the Castle.
and even though the lighting is a bit hazy, it still looks fantastic.

I'm in awe of this shot, very jealous haha. an easy 10 out of 10 from me! and you even have some of the town in the bg. wonderful

Although I have been to Werfen two times I never climbed the surrounding mountains. Now I see I should have...

A magnificent fairytale castle overlooking what once must have been a small feudal village. I like the contrasts of the darkness on this side of the hill and the sunny fields. You found a terrific spot for this photo.

Witaj Piotrze, Ja chyba nie widziałam tego filmu ani razu. Fantastyczny zamek na wzg鏎zu. Ja luibie i ruiny, ale jednak jak jest tak dobrze zachowany to nie trzeba wysilac wyobraźni. Miasteczko pod zamkiem tez niczego sobie. Znalazłes wspanialy punkt widokowy. Piekne zielone łąki.

Indeed Piotr, I never saw a picture from this POV upon the castle - a previlage reserved only for mountains-climbers.
A marvelous sight with shadows provided nice contrast to the landscape around.

takie czasy ze wszystkich posadzaja o drona. Ja tez pokazywalem niedawno zdjecie z wiezy zamku i tak niektorzy podejrzewali :)
Forteca ma niesamowite polozenie i pokazales ja ze wspanialego POV.
Szkoda moze tylko ze swiatlo nie dopisalo Ci lepsze.

Hello Piotr, I am surprised that I have never seen this castle. Years ago I stayed at Berchtesgaden many times and have hundreds of photos of that area. This is a most interesting photo and the angle or point of view here indicates you found some higher ground. I know there are several back roads from Berchtesgaden to the Eagles Nest, and I thought I had driven them all. Great photo.

Great point of view. It must be fantastic to stand on that spot and to admire the landscape. A different feeling than looking at a picture taken by a drone.
A very pretty view of the defensive wall and the different towers.

Nice approach, the viewpoint focuses on the beauty of the castle and more additional features down the slopes with excellent interplay of fresh green boosting the visual effect in general.
