Bagpipe
This is a regional player but also known in Flanders

The photo was taken during the visit of the King of the Belgians
Adegem to Diederik De Jaeger (61) will be extra stress on Sunday. He has been playing bagpipes for fourteen years during the annual ceremony. "In 2004 I was allowed to do that for Filip, who was still a prince at the time. Now he comes back as king ", says Diederik. "Of course I am nervous about that: I like to admit that. I always try to play as well as possible on my bagpipes, but on Sunday no single note can sound false. I also have to play a song while marching around the monument in the cemetery. I've practiced that constantly during the past week so that I know how many steps to take. "As a child, De Jaeger was already looking at the annual ceremony at the cemetery. "Then that was still with Canadian soldiers and with real pipers. My predilection for the bagpipes then arose. So it is a great honor that I can now do this for our king on Sunday! "

Hello John,

I thought you had paid a quick visit to Scotland, when I saw this guy with bagpipes and a tartan braid on his hat!
It is a splendid photograph. The piper is pin sharp against an oof b/g and it is easy to see how much effort he is applying to get the full sound from the pipes.
I love how his bagpipes follow a complete diagonal across the frame.

Hello John,

Quite a few Scots emigrated to Australia so it's not uncommon to see pipers here. But in Belgium it must be very unusual. Perfect sharpness and a nice shallow dof. Tfs!

Hallo John,
Een schitterend portret van deze doedelzakspeler in actie. Het is een apart instrument waarbij de wangen van de bespeler vaak flink bol staan om lucht de pijpen in te blazen. De man heeft een mooi klassiek uniform aan en de scherptediepte is zeer goed.

Most probably this quite photgenic bagpipe player did't have such a wonderfull portrait before !

Hello John,
It's an excellent portrait of a man at work, but a different kind of craft from what we would usually see here. The interview quoted in the note is very interesting and gives us a perfect complement to the photo. The sharpness and exposure are stunningly good. All that I am missing is a sound file. ;-)

Deze heerlijke foto van een doedelzakker in een prachtig uniform (helaas kunnen we niet zien of er een kilt onder zit.) doet bij denken aan mijn laatste bezoek aan Ottawa waar zeker wel 40 doedelzakspeler van all over the world zich in een park hadden verzameld. In het begin klonk het heel leuk, maar na een half uurtje ging het toch wat vervelen. Ga straks mijn foto𠏋 ervan nog eens bekijken.

Een heel mooi portret vanuit een goede hoek genomen waarbij we de verschillende pijpen van het instrument goed zien.

He is fully concentrated on his instrument and is blowing to fill the bag. The general diagonal of the picture gives also some dynamism to the scene

Marvelous close up on the piper, John.
Pity the picture has no music - I can only imagine the tones he produced.

Hallo John, nice portrait of that musician in action. I like his uniform, his hat and the interview in the photo note. To play bagpipe needs a lot of breath. He looks experimented. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
