2005 Archive Ghent “The Dairy bridge” a small metal bridge in background
The Zuivelbrug is a bridge over the Leie in Ghent. The bridge is part of the Zuivelbrugstraat that connects the Kraanlei and the rest of the Patershol via the Meerseniersstraat or the Grootkanonplein to the Vrijdagmarkt.
The name refers to the dairy market that used to be held with the sale of butter, eggs and cheese on the Vrijdagmarkt. The Meerseniersstraat was then called the Suvelsteghe, the bridge was later referred to as the Suvel Bridge.
The first name of the former wooden bridge, however, was from the construction in the 13th century to 1476 the Boudins bridge, to Boudins, who lived in the Suvelsteghe. From 1363 to 1426 the bridge was rebuilt, in stone. The passage of larger ships meant that a swing bridge was installed between 1751 and 1754, which was also adapted and repaired several times. Between 1968 and 1987 the bridge could not open. On July 1, 1987 a new metal swing bridge was inaugurated. In 2013, the plank floor was renewed and the bridge restored by Waterwegen and Zeekanaal

Hello John
A very colourful splash of oof flowers in the bottom left corner seems to outdo the colourfully attired tourists in the 2 rowboats midstream. Good sharpness and the bridge adds a focal point. Tfs!

Hallo John,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello John,
This is a remarkably tight composition with hardly any dull area. There are so many buildings of different styles and different colours, boats, people, trees and flowers. Lots of colours, lots of interesting details among the facades and even up on the roofs. A truly delightful photo taken from a an excellent position.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo John,
Ik kan me deze plek in Gent geloof ik nog wel herinneren. Een prachtige verzameling aan verschillende gevels met een mooi lichtspel. De compositie is uitstekend en de bloemen links zorgen voor nog wat extra kleur.

hello John,
I am surprised that you have kept this in your archive for so long for it is a fine photograph from Ghent, revealing the beauty of the old buildings edging the canal and leading to the bridge.
The flowers, in the f/g, add colour and textures and enliven the scene.
The boats are good details, suggesting movement and animating the scene.
Good lighting, colours and depth.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi John
A picturesque canal sight revealing its beauty in depth framed by some attractive features on both sides. Vivid colour and detail work well here and superb how the eye popping blooms actually clicks as strong additional feature, booted by the happy visitors on the cruising boats! Congrats

Dag John

Hello John,
A fascinating and informative note and a very fine photograph to accompany it.
Your photograph is very pleasingly composed, the bridge perfectly placed in the frame and surrounded by lovely tall buildings while the pleasure boats on the water and the colourful flowers in the nearest foreground add interest and splashes of bright colour.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and, as always, perfect technical quality.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Colors of the flowers and the sight of the beautiful architecture on side of the canal, with the motion of the tourists boats - all wonderfully "filled" the picture space with many details, John.
As always, the grandeur of the old-town Ghent, marvelously presented on your photos.

Dag John This lovely picture fulfills in all points the exigences of perfection: The intense visual information at starboard is beautifully balanced by the subtle color lineup on the port side; both giving to the city river a romantic mood. In summary, from a carefully-considered point of view, you masterly captured a piece of art! Met vrindelijke groeten.

Hallo John, a boat trip on Ghent canals offers different views of the city from the water. The flowers in pots prettify the quays. A footbridge connects the two banks. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.
