The Begijnhof, Bruges.

In the Middle Ages, the surplus of women due to the decimation of men by wars led to the development of "Beguinages", walled communities similar to convents to house middle-aged single women. Some of them still exist, like this one in Bruges, but are not used anymore for their original purpose

A lovely place isn't it ? The rhythm of the trees and of the small white houses goes so well together, enhanced by the play of light.
