Folklore market Heist archive 2008

The traditional folklore market of Heist, every Thursday during the summer months, gets a facelift.
Since 1968 there has been a folklore market every week in the summer holidays, but from now on the focus will be more on old crafts and demonstrations.

In recent years it was more and more a mess and brocant market. The folklore market, every Thursday of July and August, is now divided into zones. In the Heroes Square - Graaf D'Ursellaan zone there is room for the flea market, brocante and sales stands. Only handicrafts and crafts can be admired in the Knokkestraat. In the Kursaalstraat the emphasis is on handicrafts and art. In that street, the folklore market is extended to the primary school De Zeeparel, including the front garden of the school.

Weer zo een prachtig portret. Mooi scherp en gedetailleerd gefotografeerd.
Dit is zeker een hoofd dat zo uit de geschiedenis tevoorschijn is gekomen. Echt iemand die zelf tot de Folklore hoort.

Een prachtig portret van een van de aanwezigen op de markt. Uitstekende kwaliteit en scherpte, de man kijkt ook mooi op naar de camera en wat heeft hij een machtige baard.

Hello John,
A razor sharp and perfectly exposed portrait of this interesting man who makes me think of a Russian farmer out of a Dostoevsky novel (except maybe for his clothes). He is quite a character. This was ten years ago, so I wonder where he is now. He doesn't actually look very old, so I hope he is still healthy and active.

A fascinating and informative note about this folklore market and a fine photograph from your archives from 2008.

This man has the most wonderful huge beard but it is also very well groomed and the colours of it match those of his hand-knitted sweater perfectly! You have managed excellent eye contact with your subject, colours and flesh tones are perfect and details and sharpness are exquisite.

Hello John,

This is a fine photograph of a gentlemen who is very proud of his beard and fits well into the character of someone engaging in traditional crafts. His features are pin sharp and I love that you have managed to get such a good catchlight in his eyes which certainly gives him character.
The shallow dof is very well implemented.

The notes about the traditional folklore market are interesting. It is very reassuring that countries are trying so hard to promote and maintain these old traditional craft.

I was watching a programme about the Vikings in Britain last night and a gentleman with a beard like this was demonstrating how the Vikings plaited their beards; it was fashionable and probably hygenic for them!

Je hebt wel een goed oog voor mensen met een apart uiterlijk zoals bijvoorbeeld deze man met zijn lange, grijze baard.
Hij kijkt een beetje sceptisch maar het is een heel goed portret.
Perfect scherp met een goede wazige achtergrond.
