This visit before Covid-19 a Bruges

Bruges Spiegelrei (mirror river)
Naturally, there was a street on both sides of the canal. Like the rei itself, both streets were called Spiegelrei. Lack of distinction between the two banks was apparently annoying. Hence, the Spiegelrei was renamed Spinolarei on the south side.
As a waterway, the Spiegelrei has escaped the disappearance several times. From the end of the 18th century, there was no more passage for ships to the Grote Markt. The reie became largely stagnant water and soon an open sewer. In 1816, the city and provincial authorities agreed to fill in the watercourse to create a park. Around 1860 there were new plans to fill in and build a new municipal theater. Both plans failed.
As along the Spiegelrei, along the Spinolarei there are numerous canal houses that have a long history of merchant activities.

Hallo John,
Het water en de brug zijn mooi in het midden van de compositie geplaatst. De gevels van de huizen aan de andere kant zijn heel aantrekkelijk en hun kleuren steken mooi af tegen de bewolkte lucht.

Helo John,
There is a wonderful row of old buildings along the canal, and the small bridge makes a very nice foreground. The young couple give some life to the view. The photo has an exceptionally fine clarity with wonderful colours and contrasts despite the dull weather.

Hallo John, nice view of this old bridge in stone crossing a canal of Bruges. The scene was captured in winter just before the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemy. Interesting glimpse of the local architecture. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello John,

We all have been finding photographs of places pre-Covid, when people were freely walking the streets; pleasing memories!

You have chosen an excellent viewpoint, using the converging walls of the river to guide us first to the bridge, and then onwards to the eclectic buildings.
The contrast of textures between the reflective water and the paved street are well included.
The couple animate the scene well and link us to other figures in the b./g.

Hallo John,
Genomen op een dag met veel wind en de rei niet kon spiegelen ... tenzij dan het licht op de golven in het water.
Mooie rij huizen waar toch ook al nieuwe gebouwen tussen staan.
De lucht is zwaar bewolkt maar dat heb je niet een nadeel laten worden voor de helderheid van de foto.
Goede compositie, scherpte en heel veel diepte.

Dag John,
De wolken laten zien dat dit geen mooie lentedag was toen je deze prachtige foto voor je uitgebreide Bruggense serie hebt genomen, maar in elk geval heel wat beter dan de voortdurende regen en harde wind die ik zie als ik naar buiten kijk.
Weer een schitterende foto in de bekende verzorgde stijl.
