History of the great City hall Antwerp.
City hall
The Town Hall is a Renaissance building designed by the architect Cornelis Floris De Vriendt. It was built between 1561 and 1564. The town hall is predominantly built in the Renaissance style; the middle section, however, is already reminiscent of the Baroque.
In this middle section 3 coat of arms were incorporated: on the left of the duke of Brabant, in the middle of that of the Spanish king Philip II and on the right of the margrave of Antwerp. An eagle can be seen on this last coat of arms.
Above the three coats of arms there is a niche with a statue of Mary. However, this has not always stood. Originally there was a Brabo statuette, but by the Counter Reformation this was replaced by a more Christian Mary statue.
The lower floor of the town hall consists of small wooden gates. These served as a shop to pay the expensive building.
I hope you can enjoy.

Hi John,
The wideness of the square is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the statue and of the buildings. The overcast sky does not hurt the output of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello John,
The green statue is a good eye-catcher in the square, but it gets tough competition from the magnificent Town Hall and the beautiful buildings on the other side of the square. The entire square is a testimony to the immense wealth of Antwerpen in the 16th century. The photo is a testimony to your skill as a photographer, showing the technical qualities and your regular talent for compositions.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao John

Hi John
A beautiful old town square. lovely view point through the classic statue and all leads to the eye catching architectural beauty. The texture on the pavemnt steals the show too thus it's obvious to see why you'd want to capture this scene. Delightful sight so well taken, Congrats
Best regards

Bonjour John,

Hello John, a very impressive skyline with all the intricate detail of the facades.
Does it still look the same after 10 years? My guess is yes, it probably does.
A pity about the grey sky, but nevertheless a very sharp shot. The flags add a nice touch of colour.
Regards Jean.

Even under grey sky, this place is shown with its grandeur and elegance, John.
Details of architecture, the statue, colors of the flags and people, made this outstanding photo.

Dag John
