2008 Archive Ghent

History.
This was ten years ago but still the same for the children today.
The temperature rises visibly with the little grunt, when Sinterklaas with his low beard is coming up with his boat, together with his black servants.
The first joyful entries of the saint are a fact, but until 6 December the Saints and his Servants are particularly busy with Sinterklaas shows, Sinterklaas parties and Sinterklaas stalls where they are present in person.
Like here on the Scheldt a watercourse through the center of the city.

Lep pogled i trenutak, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Lepo pokazano, dobra perspektiva i kontrast, lepe boje, lepo uhavcen trenutak.

Very nice this almost 10 years old capture from Flanders.

Hallo John,
Deze tijd van het jaar komt er weer snel aan. De pepernoten en marsepein liggen hier inmiddels alweer in de supermarkt. Een uitstekende foto van de twee boten met de oude gevels als een prachtige achtergrond.

Hallo John,
Hopelijk geeft deze foto geen aanleiding tot een Zwarte Pietendiscussie. Vermoedelijk niet op TE.
Je was op het juiste moment op de ideale plaats.
De huizen aan de waterkant vormen een minder gekend zicht van Gent.
Een aantal ramen worden mooi weerspiegeld in het water.
Prachtig beeld met de vele kinderen, de Zwarte Pieten en Sinterklaas in kleurrijke outfit.

Hello, John, I guess that Sinterklaas is Santa Claus or, Saint Nicolas. Must a great joy for kids to see him coming in the boat with the servants. Nice composition.

Hello John,
A timely reminder that Christmas is now not far away. This certainly looks much more interesting than going to see Father Christmas in a department store grotto. A well captured scene with excellent colours and sharpness. I also like the beautifully rendered textural detail to be observed in the background fa蓷des.

A lovely canal and buildings stealing the show as main point of interest complemented by traditional excursion boats slowly passing by. Speck of vivid red helps to settle the focus. Excellent shot, Congrats

Eerst even vlug naar de datum van de opname kijken of dit niet een heel vroege aankomst van de goedheiligman in Gent is. Maar deze schitterende foto is dus een gouwe ouwe. 6 december, dus nog even voordat hij weer terugging naar Spanje.

This is a very charming view. I like the architecture in the background, and all the bits of red color throughout the scene. Here in NYC Santa Claus arrives in a sleigh on Broadway, but now I know that he arrives in a small boat on a canal in Ghent. :-)

I wonder how the lives of the children we see have changed :)
The only thing that would say this was taken 10 years ago is that people may not be holding a smart phone :) They came out in 2007. lovely shot with the diffused light, the reflections, the wiggle on the water, the buildings, the boats...everything. very charming indeed. cheers

Hi John,
fantastic capture of the Santa Claus in such an original scenery. I don't remember ever seeing Santa on a boat, but why not. Everybody coming to Ghent must take a boat tour even the Santa Claus :)
Wonderful setting for this event with these aged town houses.

Hallo John, the arrival of Sinterklaas and his servants in the city is accompanied by musicians playing violin on the boat. Another boat on the canal is filled with children excited to see these strange personages coming to celebrate Christmas. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.
