Zandwegemolen M XI, a photo from West-Vlaanderen, Flanders

Photographer's Note

I taken this picture in Bruges, one suburb of Bruges St-Pieters. This is the Zandwege mill together with a restaurant. This mill is restored between 2002 and 2005. This is a grain mill, and work every weekend.
I want that you see the old and new architecture in this picture, to the left the restaurant in modern architecture and to the right old style.
The weather was superb, or perhaps not through the fierce sun, and the strong blue sky, but I like this picture, perhaps something otherwise than my perspective picture.
I hope you can appreciate this one.

Een mooie combinatie van het oude restaurantgebouw en de molen in dezelfde kleurstijl. Het nieuwe gedeelte vind ik niet storend en gelukkig hebben ze rekening gehouden met de kleuren.
Erg mooie kleuren en er zijn veel textuur details zichtbaar op het restaurant gedeelte. Goed werk!

Hallo John,
Kwa kleur zit hij superstrak in het vel, dat heb je heel erg mooi gedaan. Net als de gehele belichting, dik in orde. Waar ik wat meer moeite mee heb zijn de vallende lijnen en hoe de molen er bij staat. Hij leunt wel heel erg ver naar achteren waardoor hij een nogal onnatuurlijke houding krijgt. Ik weet dat dit amper te voorkomen is, want zodra je aan die 16-35 begint te draaien begint het gedonder al, dus daar valt weinig aan te verhelpen, vooral als je gelimiteerd bent in je standpunt. Dus ik zie dit als het beste uit twee werelden, daarom een pluim voor je kleurbeheer en compositie...!!!

No canals, no Minnewasser, no Belfort... A very different Bruges from we got used to see. Red, white, blue and grey composition, added to the charm of the mill. Excellent sharpness and lighting makes this photo a wonderful one. The shade on the white surface of the mill looks very nice. TFS,

Dag John, weer een heel kleurrijke foto en van een molen dus voor mij is dat altijd goed. En ja, je hebt daar niet overdreven veel mogelijkheden door de smalle straat. Jammer dat de herberg er niet volledig op staat. By the way: ik heb al eens in het restaurant gegeten en het was niet slecht; moet wel zeggen dat het binnen nog niet volledig was afgewerkt.

Classic shot! The windmill looks huge, with the arms appearing to reach to the sky. Great contrast too, between the bright white and red of the windmill and the deep blue of the sky. It is interesing that we still have some sense of scale even though there are no people visible, because of the chairs and tables. Well done!

Great composition and contrastful colors makes this a photography with a lot of punch from the go, John. Wonderful! Including the writing of the place on the right side of the image was a good compositional element. I just wish you wold have some people wlaking or sitting there to give some live to it.

Goedenavond John,
Wat een prachtig weer voor deze foto. De strakblauwe lucht werkt uitstekend als achtergrond voor de witte gebouwen. De molen torent hoog boven het restaurant uit en is goed in de compositie geplaatst. De schaduw van de wiek op de ronde muur geeft een leuk effect. Mooi werk!

Interesting example of the integration of an old building into a modern one, even if it is to the disavantae of the windmill in my opinion.
Strangely this picture reminds me of a famous site in Montmartre, the "Moulin de la Galette", which was a famous dancing and night bar at the great period of Montmartre at the end of the 19th century (Toulouse Lautrec, la Goulue, the French Cancan and so forth...). As far a I remember the paintings I have seen of that place, there was also an old windmill integrated in the structure.
Excellent colors and sharpness again.

Dag, John. Het contrast tussen het wit van de molen en het restaurant en de blwuae lucht wert hier uitstekend. De molen ziet er zeer indrukwekkend uit. Hij steekt hoog boven het huis uit. Ik vind de schaduw van de wiek op de molen ook zeer mooi.

Goedemorgen John, u presenteert ons deze bekende molen wel heel mooi. Prachtig in het bijna vierkante frame, met naam en al en met de helder rode liijnen om het complex te accentueren. Het wat harde licht is goed onder controle hier en de vervormde schaduw van de wiek is de slagroom op de cake! Fraai werk John.
Goed weekend vanuit een zonnig Rotterdam met wat sluierbewolking, een Oostenwind van 7 km/u en een luchtvochtigheid van 60%.

Zoals je zegt, het is een heel ander genre dan dat wat we van je gewoon zijn John. De compositie en de kleuren zijn top. De molen leunt inderdaad wat achterover. Je kan eraan sleutelen in CS2 van Adobe maar doen moet je heel ruim cadreren en er heel veel afsnijden achteraf. Dat is trouwens wat ik met die foto van de kapitelzaal in Toledo gedaan heb.
