Gj鏬v - Eysturoy

Next stop on our tour over the Faroe Islands is the small town, Gj鏬v (pronounced [tʃɛkv], literally: gorge, geo, Danish: Gjov). A village located on the northeast tip of the island of Eysturoy, on the Faroe Islands and 63 km north by road from the capital of T鏎shavn.
The village was named after a 200-metre long sea-filled gorge that runs north to the sea from the village.
The inhabitants are known as Gj墑rf鏊k, possibly related to the Icelandic word gj� which itself comes from the Old Norse gj� from which the village name is derived
The village was first mentioned in 1584, but it seems to have existed long before then.

The village is split in two parts by a fast flowing mountain stream. This is also the subject of the presentation today. The gorge will be the subject of the next post.

Hello Rob,
Another very neat and tidy village with colourful houses in green surroundings overlooking the sea. Less dramatic than Iceland but just as scenic, in a more modest way and on a smaller scale. Three excellent photos with captivating colours.

Another superb landscape from the Faroe Islands. The stream provides natural linear perspective towards the back. Good sharpness and nice motion blur of the rushing w ater. Tfs!

Hello Rob and welcome back from the tour, which most probably we will see many beautiful pictures from in due time.
Fantastic compo. dominated by green, but has lot's of other colors - all mingling and created a marvelous estuary picture.
The WS's are beautifully added.
The place looks a small heaven for photographers.

I like the point of view looking along the stream flanked by the traditional colourful houses toward the distant mountains. Excellent light management with well defined colour contrasts and very good sharpness.

Hallo Rob,
Dat ligt toch nog best een eind van T鏎shavn af. De mensen zullen hier de hele dag naar de wc moeten met zo'n klaterende beek dwars door het dorp. Ze hebben de huisjes hier ook weer mooie kleuren gegeven en het uitzicht op de kliffenkust van Kalsoy is schitterend.

yes, very pretty indeed. Its the type of shot we'd see in a calendar :) the weather worked out well for you, a hint of blue sky, and it allowed for lots of depth, the mountains are clearly visable and it really does complete the scene well. awesome post, I wish I was here to see this one. cheers

This is a another charming view. I also like the upstream WS view a lot. The landscapes are beautiful, and it seems so peaceful, although I imagine that things can get rough during the heart of winter. In this photo, the ground looks very lush and green.
