Photographer's Note
Hello :O)
I have not been very active here on TE lately and today I want to tell you why:
I don't feel very successful since I bought my new camera a few months ago and thats really really annoying. Normally I LOVE to take very close-up portraits of people I meet but I just feel so stupid approaching people here in my own country. Something I have to get over as soon as possible as thats the kind of pictures I want to take.
This morning I jumped on my bike and went to Frederiksberg Garden. The weather was wonderful (of course it's raining now :O)) so the park was full of people enjoying themselves. The prospect of having a lot of people in my pictures was very good......but look what I came home with....absolutely NOBODY in my picture :O)
And that has happend to me SO MANY TIMES the last few months - me wanting people in my pictures but ending up with flowers, buildings etc. and because I don't feel "on home ground" with that kind of subject I feel a bit insecure to upload it.
Well, I guess (and I hope) that it's common to have a period where you are not satisfied with your own work - my period has lasted too long and I want it to end now!
I'm not sure - but I hope the above-mentioned makes sense :O)
Anyway - what do you think of this one?
Have a nice weekend :O)

Excellent shot, well done.
I like the many different colours, very bright!
And the particular perspection created by flowers and building.

Hi Tina
I can fully relate to your note - somehow its not "possible" to take the same kind of close ups shot people here in Denmark as for instance in India. I do take some of the shots you mention bur its very seldom I post these shots - two weeks I visit Rotterdam to meet with others TE-members and got some persons shot as well, but still I'm sure if they will be posted here.
(M廛ke skulle have en bedre zoom-linse, men det l鷭er nok ikke dit problem ;-))
Nice photo anyway.
Hilsen, Jeppe

Hi Tina. This is a delightful photo (even without people) with a vividly colorful ensemble of building, flowerbed and tree taken from a good angle. Nothing wrong with that and it is well done :)
I can very much relate to your experience. In Japan it felt much more comfortable and easy to have people in my photos; even if in many cases they were aware of it, they didn't mind and a smile or a friendly look by the photographer certainly helps. Here in central Europe (or also in North America), no matter how friendly you are you may encounter downright hostility when pointing a camera at people - the few possible options (neither of which feel particularly good) seem to be to use a very small compact camera which is less noticeable, or to use a medium-range or telezoom lens which has a somewhat unpleasant voyeuristic aspect.
It will all be better again for you if one day you'll manage to do another travel into Asia (which I'm sure you are already contemplating :o)
Have a nice weekend!

Now this is something different from you, Tina. So used to see your portrait works that it is quite a nice surprise seeing this side of your work. Well done. It takes a little bit of time to get used to new equipment. Just have fun with it!
Cheers,

Hi Tina
A very beautiful photograph with excellent composition. The exposure, colour and detail is well thought out and well proportioned. Concerning photographing people, this can be very difficult in societies where cameras are viewed with suspicion. Social events, carnivals etc, and places with generally large gatherings are easier and you can try these as a way of gaining some shots.
Good luck.

Hello Tina,
What's wrong with this one without any people on it? For me nothing, such pictures like this one don't need people.
You want to display the house and garden, that is wonderful taken in fresh bright colours.
For the portraits, maybe you should start with friends and relatives, we here in Europe think it's weird when a total strager is coming so close to you with a camera ;-)
Nevertheless a very joyful photo with excellent colours..!!!

Hi Tina, Now who is writing the book here! Thanks for your honesty in your note, but I'm sure people already pointed out that there is nothing wrong with this type of photo. You have approached the scene with a lovely composition and the colours are truly stunning. It is not a portrait, no, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, is it. I'm sure that when you come across good portrait scenes, you will shoot. A portrait doesn't have to be a full blown close up either. Anyway, keep up the good work and try to experiment that is what makes one evolve! Sabine
... sorry for the speech :))

Hi Tina
If this is what you can accomplish on a bad day, I would love to see the result of a good day. It's a warm and soulfull pict. even without people in it;-)

Hi Tina
I can understand, portraits is a big part of my aim too but here in my own country, I can't, I don't feel the need nor the urge and when I shoot here it is almost always without people, only nature.
But your shot here radiates a lot of deep sunny colors even in the deep blue sky contrasting this orange facade and the flowers makes it joyfull. I can only say, empty your mind and let beauty comes by itself, look around, wondering with no thoughts but you have to go out and let yourself flow, a feel of must works always averse.
(BTW you tried a card reader...)

Hi Tina,
I guess there is no reason to be unsatisfied with this picture. Seems to be a lot of people enjoy this picture and I like it as much. This is a great picture!

It's really very beautiful pictures that us makes divide. I visited Copenhagen at the last end of the last year and that points out good memories to me.
