Fouquet and Vaux-le-Vicomte II, a photo from Ile-de-France, North

Photographer's Note

I have added the first Photographer𠏋 Note for those who did not see the first presentation.

(I) Nicolas Fouquet (1615-1680) conceived the ch漮eau de Vaux-le-Vicomte, as Superintendent of Finances for Louis XIV (1638-1715) and patron of the arts. The construction of the edifice began in 1656 and was accomplished finally in 1661. Fouquet employed three artistic geniuses and 18,000 men to work in collaboration for the first time on the Baroque ch漮eau and gardens of Vaux-le-Vicomte situated 55 km SE of Paris in Melun.

(II) The father of Nicolas Fouquet was a state counsellor and was also a great collector of all sorts of antiques and curiosities from around the world. His library was one of the largest in the capital with some 15,000 volumes of books and, geographic and astronomical maps. Nicolas Fouquet spent a great deal of his time among the richness of his father𠏋 collection at home. It is perhaps this environment, which affected the growth of his most extraordinary esthetical sensibility to become one of the most fascinating personalities of this era.

The painting over the fireplace is a portrait of Fouquet himself. The interior of the ch漮eau was decorated by painter and interior designer Charles Le Brun. (24 February 1619 � 22 February 1690)

hai ben riportato l'immagine e in condizioni di luce non favorevoli ci hai reso partecipi di questa scena.
Buona la definizione e lascelta del POV con il tavolo da biliardo in FG e la parete lavorata sullo sfondo,

Lots of noise, but very atmospheric picture. Ultra colours and good use of the available ligh. The open door in the bg reminds me of old Spanish and French genre paintings. Would be a good setting for a mystery...maybe the V-shape of the cues is a clue?

La chose est tr鋊 belle et il m(est difficile de trouver les bons mots pour d嶰rire cette image,c'est tout simplement tr鋊 bien r嶧lis�.j'aime beaucoup cette variation en bleu dur le tapis du billard et les 幨幦ents de teintes chaudes � l'arri鋨e cr嶪nt une tr鋊 esth彋ique harmonie des couleurs.Le scan est de tr鋊 bonne qualit�.Personnellement je poss鋄e de tr鋊 bonnes diapos en argentique mais n'彋ant pas en possession d'un scanner de qualit�,je pr嶨鋨e m'abstenir de publier une image m嶮iocre.Scanner des diapos dans un laboratoire sp嶰ialis� n'est pas non plus 嶰onomique.
Bravo pour cette tr鋊 belle r嶧lisation,j'aime beaucoup.

Hello Nobu,
I really like interior photos when taken with good light, colors and POV. I normally prefer them to be with human elements (to get the idea of size) but here is an exception. The scenery is so vivid with the pool, the balls, the vases, and the candles that i can easily imagine someone was there only a few seconds ago. The colors are a bit too much saturated, but here it works well too. I can only object to the lack of quality on the left part, but this usually happens to me as well. Darker parts create noise (in some cases it also works, but here i expect to see a clear image with lots of sharp details).

Hello Nobu,

This is a very nice image with the portrait painting of Nicolas Fouquet hanging over the fire place. Here , we are seeing this great lover of arts painted in a very majestic pose. I see the room full of art work showing his interest in rt. The pool table in the front with the balls create an additional interest. Like the mood, colors and depth.Y ou have create a nice image with good play of light and shade. Your note is very informative.Thanks for sharing such wonderful images which are not captured often.

It seems something or someone is just about to erupt to life! The open door, the V shape of the cues, the face looking down from the painting.....
The light has been deftly managed. Quite some noise in the picture...if you had taken the picture with today's advanced DSLR's even with High ISO you would not have got any noise. There's a clear difference in quality between the left & the right side of the picture, & all because of light!

But a quality shot in approcah, composition & mood. Technical output can be put to rest here!

Dear Nobu,
it's an unusual scene which I would call "a game of colours". The bright blue billiard table attracts attention at once, and from the table the look goes straight to the warmly lit portrait. The composition which you created is sort of "geometrical" and very "logical" - thanks to the POV which is, in this respect, perfect.
In a way this photo also reminds me of a mosaic puzzle... very interesting!

I apologise, I wrote a critique to this photo yesterday, but when the TE system crashed yesterday, I lost all 20 critiques I wrote. So apologies if I repeat myself.

This looks like Fouquet has just finished his game of billiards and is in another room and may come back any moment. Interesting his portrait on the wall. I like the light-play, so very Nobuccio-esque. Nice atmosphere - an atmosphere of expectancy.

This should be in Daily Life since it does make us think of Fouquet's daily life, sometimes a hard thing to envision in these chateaux! I prefer the noisy version, I think, even though the softer tones of the workshop have their appeal. The brilliance of the colors caught by that bit of light is wonderful and the distribution of the colors is attractively asymmetrical.
Oh for a game of pool in a place like this! :-) But we would call it billiards...
