The Louvre𠏋 New Islamic Galleries

It consists of ground- and lower-ground-level interior spaces topped by a golden, undulating roof that seems to float within the Neo-Classical Visconti Courtyard in the middle of the Louvre𠏋 south wing, right below the museum𠏋 most popular galleries, where the Mona Lisa and Veronese𠏋㜁edding Feast of Cana� are hung.

This deftly engineered design is the work of two architects, the Italian Mario Bellini and the Frenchman Rudy Ricciotti, who won an international competition.

When the plans were first unveiled, the architects said, the roof resembled a 弌 scarf floating within the space� a somewhat loaded description, perhaps, considering that last year the French officially banned full veils in public places.
The museum𠏋𢡠uminous veil,� or 𡜻lying carpet� as it has also been called, covers some 30,000 square feet of gallery space on the ground and lower floors. The new galleries, roughly four times as large as the space previously devoted to Islamic art at the Louvre, house a collection spanning 1,200 years of history, from the 7th through the 19th centuries, and includes glass works, ceramics, metalwork, books, manuscripts, textiles and carpets.

Delicate manuscripts and textiles are displayed in the lower-floor galleries, where there is no natural light, while vitrines upstairs display stone sculptures, glassware and metalwork. (These angled glass cabinets � the work of the architect and museum designer Renaud Pi廨ard allow art and artifacts to be seen from all angles. 𨧻t is very important to have perception of objects, their shapes, their profiles and not to hang them like pictures against a wall,� Ms. Makariou said.)

I am very interested in Islamic Art and modern museums, so when in Paris I realized that this exhibition will be open at the public the day I flied back to Argentina, I felt really happy, I was there at the morning with lots of time to enjoy and explore both, exhibition (new ways to present the works in glass cabinets)and the light given by the artistic roof that kept changing with the sunbeams

Yes I agree with you, Islamic art is very interseting and also artstic. This is very interesting snap shot to preserve good atmosphere inside museum. Slow shutter speed makes good taste with good daylight. Thanks for your sharing with best job and have a good day!

veo que has visitado Par疄, una ciudad que merece la pena y que yo todav燰 no he tenido la suerte de conocer. Pero lo har� alg𠒇 d燰, sin duda.
Me gusta la espontaneidad y la frescura de esta din嫥ica escena dentro del museo, que has captado con solvencia y buen hacer, obteniendo un buen resultado fotogr塻ico.
La exposici鏮 es correcta, y junto a la calidad de la imagen y del color has podido crear una composici鏮 interesante y atractiva.
Buen trabajo, y bienvenida de nuevo.

Hello Maria,
a well composed comprehensive view into a gallery of the Louvre Museum displaying some exquisite samples of Islamic art. We get a great idea of the architecture, the works of art, the atmosphere, and the interest of the visitors who seem fascinated. There's a very intriguing sense of depth and perspective in this composition which consists of so many diverse elements.

Hello Maria,

I love the composition in this photo, with the visitors enjoying the exhibition under a ceiling with featuring curves and geometric patterns. The subdued colors of the background accentuate the rich brown of the door.

cuando he visitado este museo no he tenido tiempo para conocer todas las partes, es algo tan grande que estava siempre caminando para mirar todo.
muy buena vista de esta parte del museo, me gusta la presencia de las personas y las obras de arte con una Buena luz y buena definicion. GPC.

Salut mon ami du Sud,

It's a pity we didn't know each other long before now, I just realized the date you took this photo I was also in Paris. How great would it have been to meet in a place we both enjoy so very much! :)

Although I generally don't have a lot of interest in museums, the Louvre is undeniably an outstanding attraction and well worth a visit at any time. I'm glad you were able to see the exhibit you wanted before flying home.

Wise use of the textured and patterned ceiling to create a solid base, cutting across the top portion of the frame, as if holding the art displays in place. Very good for a hand held shot too, the slight blur of the gentleman in passing gives the scene some additional life in motion. A proper white balance also has everything, and everyone, appearing natural. Tr鋊 bien fait mademoiselle! :-) Enjoy your evening.
