Last week I was lucky to be in Paris at the same time that the Biennale des Antiquaires took place from 14th September to the 23rd at the Grand Palais
At the heart of the event, a giant hot-air balloon served as a reminder of one of the Grand Palais's first exhibitions

Biennale des Antiquaires, Paris 2012

The Biennale is host to 150 exhibitors, nearly double the 86 present at the last event in 2010.
The big names this year aren't just on the show floor, but behind-the-scenes as this year organizers have lured fashion designer and decorative-arts lover Karl Lagerfeld to design and create the Biennale's fantastical scenography.
He said "I wanted to emphasize the immensity and the splendor of the glass roof, which will be like a protective sky� it is a place I adore".
Lagerfeld sums up his approach when he says: "The era is different, I wanted to evoke, not reconstitute,"
The intended effect is "that the visitor immediately feels enveloped by the atmosphere as soon as he enters the Grand Palais."
The Biennial is the finest antique museum ephemeral world. It is both the Louvre, MoMA, the Museum of Primitive Arts, the Museum of Decorative Arts and a fabulous cabinet of curiosities.

Cette ann嶪 la sc幯ographie de la manifestation a 彋� confi嶪 � Karl Lagerfield qui a con蓰 les all嶪s qui proposent 7 kilom鋈res de fa蓷des au service du l鋃he vitrine.
Il y avait huis mille pi鋃es qui ont fait du Grand Palais la plus fabuleuse caverne d'Ali Baba que l'on puisse d嶰ouvrir.

nice the interior view of the Grand Palais with the hot air ballon to hang from the ceiling.I like the texture of the ceiling as the excellent light and colour management of the image.

el contraluz bien gestionado nos permite disfrutar de la combinaci鏮 entre la magn璗ica c𣎴ula del Grand Palais y el enorme globo aerost嫢ico con sus rayas azules y blancas, lo que crea un fuerte contraste gr塻ico.
La exposici鏮 est� muy bien controlada, y hay un buen equilibrio entre luz y sombra.
Has hecho un trabajo muy interesante, con una gran potencia visual.

Hola Maria,
The symmetry motive, highlighted by the blue&white ballon is a good idea for graphic composition. All this textures and lines and shapes creates an attractive image.

The detail and intricate delicacy amazed me, this is such a great architectural shot and tremendous graphism-abstract effect. I like the way the eye naturally follows the lines and so much care and affection in it. Shadow and lighting have created such great depth shaded by deep blue sky, the baloon is great addition to anchor the eye. Well done, TFS.

certainly a different photo as it captured my attention right away in your gallery. The contrast of the white and black lines are the highlight for me personally. With or without the balloon i think it'd be a great shot!
love that ceiling against the blue and white sky.

Hola Maria,
a great composition that enhances the originality and fascination of the architecture and its interaction with the lovely balloon which bears the same colours with the sky. I love your angle of capture and framing, the perception of depth, perspective and volume they create. The glass roof is very elegant and the contrasts it offers are magnificent. The role of the balloon is lovely and touching. It seems to be trapped and prevented by the roof from flying and becoming integrated in the blue and white sky. A great picture, congratulations and thank you!

You timed your stay really well, the Biennale's balllloon adds tons of interest to the allready impressive Grand Palais. The resulting combination of curves is fabulous and the two hues of blue of the sky and the balloon form the cherry on the cake.

Una nota muy amena e interesante, que nos introduce a esta composicion fantastica, con el bonito contraste de los claros y oscuros y el magnifico grafismo de esta cupula de cristal, el globo es un toque sensacional.
Un precioso trabajo y una exposicion que seguro seria deliciosa. Suerte de disfrutarla.

P/D. Ya estoy en Madrid desde mediados del pasado mes, solo que suelo ir a La Adrada, mas o menos una vez al mes, para el fin de semana y este pasado he estado alli, aprovechando los ultimos dias del veranillo, antes del invierno.

Hi Maria,

With Paris still at the forefront of my mind, and after commenting on the previous photo...this was another easy choice. :) This has very much of a kaleidoscope type of effect, a striking visual! With lines and patterns in every direction, and mostly as a silhouette...this really has an immediate visual impact. The blue stripes of the balloon and sky above bring the interior and exterior together in harmony. A beautiful vision, smartly observed and well displayed. Thanks for the perspective.
