Photographer's Note
A second view of the arches in this rather unspoilt town, this time looking into the sqaure wit the medievel market hall in the background.
Lucky havin the local guy sitting on the bench in the early spring sunshine. I really like being in France at this of year, quite often warm comfortable weather, but no tourists crowding you out, even in the picturesque of tourists destinations. I quite the evidence of that here. The hopeful cafe owner having put out the tables and chairs in the square, but no one there yet to use them.
Original colout film, scanned and converted to B&W.

morning richard,
nice b&w - very stylish, good exposure;
but - and this is not your fault obviously - i think the plastic chairs can spoil everything which is supposed to be nice;
i can imagine how good this image would be without the chairs, just with a sitting man;
have a nice day,
jerzy

Hi Richard,
Great compo. I like how you split the scene in two. There is a great feeling or mood of contemplation thanks to the b/w and the lonely man on the bench. Like Jerzy, I agree that the plastic chairs are a bit of a downer here. This is not your fault at all. I juyst cant believe people who run these sorts of places have no aesthetic sensibility.

Hi Richard
Good use of the double arch as a frame & a good catch of the solitary diner. I like the symmetry, contrast, lighting, & tonal range, in this outstanding b&w image. Well done!

this is a much better photo than some of your recent submissions. i think the very high contrasting black and white makes this photo work so wonderfully. lots of intriguing angles and shots. very, very nice photograh!

Hello Richard,
must be a real pleasure to enjoy the first warm days of the year on this square, depending on the time having a cafe or a glas of wine! No tourists nerving...
Good choice to use b&w.

Good choice to go b&w with this one, Richard, and very well framed including the foreground arches and looking out into the sunlit square. Good exposure with the strong light; I guess you could have dared to push up contrast even a bit more in post-work. Nice catch.

Hi Richard
Very successful composition - I very much like the image framed through the gothic arch. Also good use of black and white, emphasising the gritty texture of the stonework.
Well done
