60- Bro Pourlet, a photo from Bretagne, West

Photographer's Note

In my series about the strawberry festival in Plougastel ( 173- 172- 111- 63- 61- 59 for the costume of Plougastel- 140- 88- 65- 64- 62- 60 from other places in Brittany ), so far, I had only shown the costume of Plougastel. However, they also invite people from other places in Brittany. This bright colourful costume is from " BRO POURLET", a region west of Pontivy, right in the centre of Brittany.
The "BRAGOU BRAZ" (Big Trousers) worn by the man is a remnant of the first trousers, invented by the Gauls ( Celtic people, like the Bretons ) and were worn in Brittany up to the 19th century.
Looking at the wooden clogs, these represented rural people of course. I was busy selling strawberries later on at the fete, so I didn't get the opportunity to see him dancing in his clogs. Perhaps, he put on some shoes for the dancing though.
You may also notice the profusion of buttons on the man's jacket. They were renowned for that, so much so their region was also called "Bro mil bouton"= "the country of 1000 buttons":-)

excellent for a documentary one to show the clothes but to be honest a bit missing some special view. Very colourful costumes and the shoes remind to the Dutch.

Ils se sont pr皻廥 au jeu de la pose avec beaucoup de grace et de gentillesse. Les bretonnes sont radieuses :)J'aime bien ton cadrage serr�, qui met bien en valeur la beaut� et l'originalit� des tenues. Les passants aussi en tenue traditionnelles ajoutent � l'ambiance. Tr鋊 bien r嶧lis� et agr嶧ble � regarder. Bravo.

Il y a eu une grande cr嶧tivit� dans la recherche sur les costumes bretons dans les 30 derni鋨es ann嶪s et l'on est sorti des costumes soit disant traditionnels pour revoir des v皻ements comme on peut les admirer sur les gravures de la galerie armoricaine. J'ai une copie de celle de l'homme de Gu幦en�, et il ressemble bien � celui que tu nous pr廥ente.. J'ai 彋� membre d'un cercle qui � l'廧oque avait fait scandale en ortant les premiers bragou noirs, mais je constate qu'aujourd'hui cela ne pose plus de probl鋗es!!

Hola Marie.
Interesante fotograf燰 por los especiales vestidos de esas personas. Los zapatos que lleva el hombre, aqu� en Espa鎙, son t甑icos de la zona de Santander y Asturias, y se llaman madre鎙s, se utilizaban antiguamente para andar entre el barro y no mojarse los pies, aunque 萖timamente s鏊o se utilizan en ciertos pueblos muy aislados y como motivo de adorno o recuerdo. Un saludo amiga.
