HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY!
This year Mothers' day in France is on 7th June. Normally, it occurs on the last Sunday in May, unless Whit Sunday (Pentecost) occurs on the same day. It was the case this year, so they delayed it until the first Sunday in June! If you go on the site of "Mothers'day" Wikipedia, you will see that each country has different dates for their Mothers' days, but most celebrate it on the second Sunday in May...

I chose this photo which I thought , represents well a mother's tender care for her child.

Also, we are getting into the local festival season, and this is a picture taken last year at the stawberry-festival of Plougastel. It shows a little BOY just about ready to start walking! Until the 1920's at least, BOYS WOULD WEAR DRESSES for the sake of changing their nappies (or diapers!) It was only around the age of 3 that they would start wearing trousers!
The little children's costumes in Plougastel were always blue! The difference with girls is that boys
would wear a hat instead of a bonnet!

What a sweet photo Marie-Louise. You have captured the beautiful embroidery and texture of the fabric very well. I love the classic finger holding too, brings back many memories of my little one (a boy) holding my fingers. Hope your "little ones" showed you a nice day.

Bonjour Marie-Louise,

Une bien belle s廨ie pour cet hommage � toutes les mamans. Elle porte bien le costume traditionnelle ce petit bout de choux... Elle tient bien les doigts de sa m鋨e. J'aime beaucoup aussi la photo avec le landau d'廧oque, les poussettes d'aujourd'hui sont bien plus confortables !!! Mais apparemment b嶵� semble appr嶰ier, le biberon surtout. De belles et attendrissantes photos, merci Marie-Louise.

This is a wonderful post. It is very interesting to know those different traditions. I didn't know about dressing boys like girls, but the reason is very understandable.
The workshop photo of 1916 is really interesting also.
Mother's Day in Portugal used to be in 8 December (day Our Lady of Conception, formerly declared Queen of Portugal). Nowadays we celebrate Dia da M綣 also in May.

I'm a bit late for mother's day, but everyday should be mother's day. We shoud honor and appreciate everything mother has done for us, not just on Mother's Day.
Beautiful image, lovely and adorable. Though the costume seem too heavy and overwelming for the child, but very cute.

Really, if it were not for your Note... I would think it is a girl!! :) VERY interesting facts and a very good quality photo; I like the mood which it conveys :)
Concerning the WS additional photos, I also find them very interesting, and especially the oldie - the one taken in 1916 ;-)

I was looking through your gallery and I found this interesting photo. The little boy is very cute, and the fact that he is wearing a dress is certainly different. I have seen old photos with boys in dresses before, but I didn't realize that this was such a wide-spread custom. This dress is very pretty, too!

The the little cute girl did not like the strong light and gave a "face" for you, MarieLouise.
Yet, kids always make a nice subject for photography.
I refrain from taking children photos, there is much criticism going on about it here, and parents do not always approve.
