The festival orgnanized each year the 3rd weekend of July, is a contest of painting and drawing open to all painters. During 2 days, the participating painters, of all disciplines, must exclusively carry out a work on the territory of the commune. Only one signed and not framed work can be subjected to the appreciation of a jury, chaired by the guests of honor, composed international artists and partners. This festival, in first position in France for this kind of demonstration, accomodates 300 artists and 15000 visitors, and acquired a national and international recognition.

_ The SVRE-NIORTAISE river is a coastal river, which takes its source in the commune of Sepvret in the departement of Deux-S鋦res, close to Les Grandes-Fontaines hamlet, at 152 meters of altitude. It crosses Niort, then goes down in the MARAIS POITEVIN, marsh of Poitou, which it feeds, before throwing in the Atlantic Ocean in the Anse de l'Aiguillon, after a course of 158.1 km and the crossing of a catchment area of 3650 km, with a average flow of 44.4 m/s. the S鋦re Niortaise and S鋦re-Nantaise rivers, gave their name to the department of Deux-S鋦res. S鋦re-Niortaise river description.

_ The MARAIS POITEVIN, Marsh of Poitou, old Gulf of Poitou, gulf of Pictons that sea occupied 8000 years ago, extends on the plains from the Vend嶪 in north, the plain of Niort in Deux-S鋦res in the east and the plain of Aunis in Charente-Maritime in the south. The 95000 hectares of the Poitevin Marsh, were built by the marine currents and the alluvia brought by the rivers and rivers. Since the Neolithic era, the resources were exploited there. Salt, fishing, the breeding were developed there until the time Gallo Romaine. With the Middle Ages began from great work of draining and installation under the impulse of the abbeys, like benedictine abbey of Maillezais. They continued in particular under king Henri IV at the 17th century, and at the 19th century. It was necessary and it is still necessary, to contain the effects of the sea and to often evacuate surface waters of a marsh to the lower part of the open seas. On the whole thousands of kilometers of channels of all sizes, drains, ditches, conches, were dug.
The marshes are divided into two, the desiccated marshes of 47,000 hectares, and wet the marshes known as The Venice Verte of 29,000 hectares. 19000 hectares partially desiccated should be added.
