Photographer's Note

Let us continue our trip on the nice little country village of BRANDO (High-Corsican). Word brando means bright, shining.

In Antiquity there were three inhabited sites which are south in north: BLESINUM (become LAVASINA presented yesterday), ERBALUNGA and TESORO (prehistoric fortress).
I make known to you today ERBALUNGA, a small fishing port located at 10 km in the north of BASTIA.

Its last rich person deserves some lines of history: ERBALUNGA formed of 1438 to 1599 a tiny stronghold of 3 km which during one century, helped by Genoa, made a war baited with the stronghold close to BRANDO with the French who then occupied almost all Corsica with the except CALVI, BASTIA, the CASAIULA (SISCO Marina) and ERBALUNGA.
In April 1557, the French completely destroyed ERBALUNGA except a tower to put a guard at it. In September 1558 they raise the castle of CASTELLO-BRANDO then in October ruin the tower of ERBALUNGA. In 1599 GENOA takes in hands the administration of ERBALUNGA then of that of BRANDO in 1625. GENOA required the destruction of the castle of ERBALUNGA raised at the 13th century.
In 1764 the Corsican general PASCAL PAOLI helped BRANDO to release itself from Genoa. In August 1768, BRANDO is joined together in France like all the Corsica Cape, 9 months before the remainder of the island.

Nowadays, ERBALUNGA is pleasant marina which inspired several painters for his original site. At the entry of the marina draws up the ERBALUNGA TOWER, rebuilt at the end of the 16th century, partially ruined.

There I stop my note to let to you admire ERBALUNGA.
