Photographer's Note
In 1070 the Counts of Comburg-Rothenburg built their castle on a mountain top above the River Tauber in southern Germany. They named their fortress "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" which means "Red fortress above the Tauber". Perhaps relating to the red roof tiles of the houses.
Later with the growth of Rothenburg walls and towers were built for defense in the 13th century.
Today, Rothenburg is a fine preserved medieval town for visiting.

Hi Ray
other than the triangular building on the far right, i bet this looks pretty much the same for hundreds and hundreds of years!
I don't think much has changed has it?
love these old structures, and how they still find a way to stand the test of time.
excellent subject to post for TE, thanks for this one.
cheers

Hello Ray ,
this a beautiful fortress . the framing is well chosen , but may be a little too tight on the top . Interesting contrasts of lighting providing a good sense of shapes .

Hi Ray,
Very cool to see this ancient skyline, I just commented on Craig's pic of his home city with modern towers, here we have the medieval equivalent and it has aged well. Seeing all the towers of different shapes with different roofs like this makes this look like a scene from a fairy tale, did you by any chance hear Rapunzel calling out from one of these? Very nice idea placing the towers on the thirds lines like this too.
Cheers
