Photographer's Note

In this image of Rothenburg, at the end is the White Tower, the second tower when entering from the east.
A legend arose after the Thirty Years' War in 1631, the "Meistertrunk of Rothenburg" - the town mayor supposedly quaffed a massive tankard of wine as a bet to save the Protestant town from pillaging by Catholic forces. In the 19th century a play was created to popularize the Meistertrunk legend and made the legend even more known and part of Rothenburg's historical charms. The reality is the town was spared by the people paying a massive amount of money and goods to the invading Catholics.
