Photographer's Note

Ahr valley railway line used to have two tracks and therefore two one-track tunnels here. One of the tracks was replaced by a bikers trail. The eastern access is still possible as the bridges only suffered minor damages, the western access does not exist any more.

Water flew through the street tunnel (almost full up to its ceiling), swept away everything including the sewage plant and created an 8 m deep abyss on its eastern end. The houses on the right side between the two visible tunnels (including a bikers' meeting point) collapsed or had to be torn down.

The Bundesstra絽 received a new ramp and could be used again on this side, but there is still work in progress inside the village on the western side, so we are still waiting for the official reopening.

Altenahr castle ruin seems untouched.
