Rion - Antirrion Bridge, a photo from Ahaia, Peloponnesus

Photographer's Note

This is the famous Rion - Antirrion Cable Bridge who connect Pelloponisos and Sterea Ellada.

This photo is somewhat "collective" (LOL) because I took the shot a few days before it's official first! :)

Some technical infos:
Two piers and one beam form the simplest bridge. Such one beam bridge currently achieves a maximum single span of 250 meters.
When necessary, piers and beams are added to form a continuous span viaduct without limited length, the world record being the Lake Ponchartrain causeway in the United States with about 38 km length.
Another traditional technique consists in suspending the bridge to two cables anchored at crossing ends. It results in a supple structure often used to cross deep gorges where no pier can be built.
In the nineteenth century, men had been looking to span longer distances and devised to raise the cables to the top of pylons to form suspension bridges. This technique achieves the longest single span, the world record being the Akashi Kaikyo in Japan with a single span of 1,991 meters...

Nice bridge and very good perspective showing it on a rising diagonal. Sharpness is excellent and the colors are gorgeous, you just have a little bit of digital noise in the sky.

Very good colors and compo. iT is very nice. I also like the framing. Go for adeeper blue tint. I think it would make the picture more powerful. Or maybe BW?

Beautiful bridge. As an engineer I see in Europe you keep building wonderful works of art (Millau, Great Belt, maybe soon Reggio-Messina). Meanwhile here in the US cheapass Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to replace San Francisco's Bay Bridge with an ugly towerless boring ramp.

Good POV, colors and details of this bridge. The low horizon balances the photo and the diagonal made by the bridge adds a dynamic view to it. Are you sure Rio de Janeiro is in Peloponnesus/Ahaia?... ;-)

A very well shot photograph Mpampis. I have always felt that though such photos look simple they are perhaps the most difficult to shoot: finding the right place to get the perfect frame for such a huge structure and also to be at the location at the right time when light is perfect. Ωραία στολισμένη η γέφυρα με το μπλε του ουρανού και της θάλασσας. Τι ρυθμίσεις χρησιμοποιείς στο Unsharp Mask; Πάντως εγώ έχω πρόβλημα με το sharpness στις φώτο μου ίσως γιατί το μέγεθος του αρχείου πρέπει να είναι συγκεκριμένο.
Σωστή χρήση του Saturation και του Contrast για τα νερά και τον ουρανό.
