Photographer's Note

The old stone bridge of Portitsa, is probably the most beautiful and "popular" among the many beautiful stone bridges of Grevena Prefecture. It is located about 45 km from Grevena town in an impressive landscape, very close to the picturesque mountainous village of Spilaion, in the heart of Kanavi Valley, between Spilaion and Lykotrypa mountains, right below a very imposing, "wild" canyon. The river that runs below is Venetikos, afluent of Aliakmonas river, the longest river in Greece.

The two arched bridge was constructed in 1743. Its big arch has a width of 13,80 metres while the small arch has a width of 5 metres. Its total length is 34 metres and its height 7,80 metres. For a better idea about the scale you might notice the tiny little people crossing the bridge.

TECHNICAL INFO: The focal length is 400mm, because I used a 2X extender on my 70-200mm lens.
