Photographer's Note

Frangokastello is the name of a castle and a plain which lies on the southern coast of the island about 12 miles east of Sphakia.
It is built by the Venetians between 1371 and 1374 to secure the area Sphakia while engaging in piracy.
The rectangular fortress has a tower at each corner. The buildings inside the walls are Ottoman era.
The road there is winding and passes through the beautiful White Mountain region.
