Photographer's Note

A northward view over Athena from the height of the Acropolis.

The gigantic rock in the lower part where we can see people had climbed, is the "Areopagus", which in a free translation means "Ares rock". Here is a Wikipedia page about this ancient place that strangely acted as a high-court for criminals.
The Church of Agia Marina is shown on the far left side, it has a 5 semi-domes covered with red tiles.

An easy climb to the "Areopagus", short distance from the main entrance of the Acropolis , its location on map is: 37.9723, 23.7234 .

Hello Ike,
The rock in the foreground covered with people makes an animated frame for this view of the city stretched out before us. You had the benefit of a sympathetic ambient permitting us to see lots of interesting detail. The depth is superb looking towards the distant mountains.

Hello Ike,a great view from the Acropolis, taking in the very crowded city of Athens.Certainly,as already stated, the people give a context to the scene as well as 'grounding' the shot.
I am amazed at the number of buildings,(having never been to Athens.)
An excellent depth of field.

nice the view of this section of Athens from the rocks near Pnyx,as began as early as 507 BC,the Athenians gathered on the Pnyx to host their popular assemblies, thus making the hill one of the earliest and most important sites in the creation of democracy.The brilliant light of the day enhance even more the details as the clarity of the scene.

I guess my mental image of Athena is stuck to the ancient Greece, I'm glad you clarified that. Good panoramic view of this world famous city showing including the mountains beyond. Looks like a combination of all kinds of architectures which typical of modern city. Good details. Well done, tfs.

A very interesting and varied view of this part of the city. There are so many colours among the buildings that I didn't at first notice there are also a lot of people on the stone walls in the lower part, but they certainly add a liveliness to the the view. You had a good light in this direction and the colours are beautifully treated.

I remember this spot. I have visited most of the most popular viewpoints and I remember sitting on these rocks as well. Nice panoramic view. Lovely church in the Byzantine style in the left pity that you cut it :) but you have to cut it somehow anyway...
It really encourages me to visit Athens again.

A great overview over the metropolis up to the mountain flanks with its farthest suburbs.

I always enjoy these shots of Athens, its fun to see how densely populated the city is - especially when compared to our Canadian cities which are the opposite.

its also fun to imagine the landscape as it was thousands of years ago, just take out all the homes and imagine the hills and valleys. cool shot
