Acropolis and Plaka district, a photo from Attiki, Attica

Photographer's Note

Just before sunset I went up the roof of our hotel and took this first picture of a series of evening / night shot towards the Acropolis. One night picture already posted before.

Later meeting with Danos and his wife Mina, who came to meet us in our hotel, we climbed to the roof-balcony and took yet several more night photos of the same.
I hope not to bore with those photos, have two more to process and show in future. Here is a view clearly showing part of the Plaka old district area at the foot of the Acropolis.

Location of the Acropolis: 37.9713, 23.7268 , a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Hello Ike,
A well exposed blue hour composition that shows how the Acropolis dominated the city below. Agreeable warm/cool tonal contrasts and good sharpness. You certainly had a fine view from your hotel.

I always enjoy the view of the Acropolis and the fine, neoclassical buildings at the foot of the sacred rock, as we call it. You had a wonderful view from the hotel roof, the golden lights give it a special, festive atmosphere. I like that the Acropolis is the brightest part of your composition but wonder why you didn't leave a little more space above it. You got superb details all over, the texture of the rock is fascinating. Congratulations and thank you!

A beautiful site, such an ancient and important place and lit like a crown of gold on the top of the mount. You sure got a beautiful view of the place, and the while photo has a magical feeling too it. Really nice photo

nice the view of this well known sections of Acropolis and Plaka,just before the night comes.Difficult the light and colour management in this specific timing of the shot.I think that the previous one was much better.

The construction you saw in my photo is the reflection of the promenade that is not seen in the photo.Nothing else.

A very attractive evening capture of the Acropolis and the district at the bottom of the rock.
I like the alternation of dark spots and well lit parts.
The many star lights in the darker parts provide a pleasant atmosphere.
On the background a beautiful sky ranging from light orange to light blue.

Long time no hear, but live is keeping me busy and with not getting any notification mails from TE anymore the site has simply slowly slipped from my mind.

There is a strongly ancient feel to this photo, as it would have been taken during the age of films still. The acropolis towering over the old city of Athens is always an impressing sight to behold indeed and with the many lights and stars it is of eternal beauty.

A magnificent picture, in which the Acropolis looks like a gem, with that golden light, while at his feet we see the Plaka with its lights and shadows, the sky still retains a good lighting.

So you had an ouso drink with Danos and Mina in the upper balcony for a superb close view on the Acropolis depicted in the clair-obscur technique!
In 1990 we went to Greece and I took at night a distant view of the same historic monument lit in red that appears somewhere in my gallery.
Thanks for the 'down hill' details that does'nt show in my analog take.

Amazing view photographed in the best possible light with this delightful combination of manmade and natural lighting. The colours are outstanding and the exposure spot on. I love the graduated sky with all shades from blue to yellow.
I never get bored with night photos... :-)

Hello Ike, Nice memories of the meeting you and your wife had with Danos and his wife. These are the most presious moments in our TE-life. And what a good hotel you chose, with such a fabulous view of the Acropolis. When I find cheap flights to Athens, I will go, your photos convinced me to it.

Hello Ike,

This is a late blue hour shot which has worked really well.
What a fine view you had!

The Acropolis is totally dominating the city, brightly illuminated despite the gathering dusk and, from the effects of the artificial lights, appears to be sitting on the crest of a volcano!

Have you seen the pictures of Krakatoa erupting, yesterday?
