Photographer's Note

The Evzones or Evzonoi is the name of several historical elite light infantry and mountain units of the Greek Army. Today, it refers to the members of the Presidential Guard, a ceremonial unit that guards the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Presidential Mansion in Athens. Evzones are known for their distinctive uniform, which evolved from the clothes worn by the klephts who fought the Ottoman occupation of Greece. The most visible item of this uniform is the fustanella, a kilt-like garment. Their distinctive dress turned them into a popular image for the Greek soldier, especially among foreigners.

A very nicely composed photo in which the interesting and colourful guard is placed against a several architectural patterns in a soft winter sunlight. Thanks for the very informative note, which added to the pleasure of the photo.

Hello Daniel!

I assume you caught him just in motion, and you caught him well. Holding a rifle of 4-5 kg in this position cannot be maintained for long. The Evzone "olive drab" is outstanding, but compared with the parade uniforms of other countries, I prefer this version because it refers to a success in history.
