Photographer's Note
The 3 coves bridge at Kipi. This pictures is taken in wintertime, there are no leaves at the tree, only some green grass. I hope to come back this year around 17 of May and take a new photo of the same bridge, hopefully whit lots of green at the picture.
At this webpage http://www.archimedia.gr/hypertour/epirus/html_refs/rf_126.html I find this infoirmatiosns about this bridge:
Bridge of Plakidas or Kalogheriko (1814, Three-arched)
It connects the two banks of the river Vikos, located to the opposite of the village Kipi. It is astonishing in terms of architecture; the rythmical fluctuation of its passing surface gives a fine elegance to the massive structure.
Initially it was wooden, with Zotos Roussis as its donor (he offered 8,000 piastres for its construction). Its transformation into a stone-built one is attributed to the prior of the Monastery of Prophitis Elias in Kipi, Serapheim. This is why the bridge was called "Kalogheriko" (= of the monk). Its second name, "of Plakidas", is attributed to Andreas Plakidas who repaired it, in 1865. There is indeed an inscription referring to this restoration, chiselled on a black stone.
This bridge facilitated the communication of the habitants of Kipi with the nearby mill, as well as the communication of the habitants of Koukouli with the forests of their village.
It is preserved until today, proclaimed as a preservable historical monument.

I love the composition of this shot and the beautiful colour of the water against the old stone of the bridge. I thought your shot of the bridge at Arta was wonderful too. There's something about bridges....

Perfect placement of the bridge within the frame! It creates such a dynamic diagonal throughout the frame.

Beautiful structure Jan. The image is very low res and grainy I would have expected a better quality from your equipment.

Thanks for this amazing display of bridge-building genious of times gone by.From this photo, one can really appreciate the intricate stonework required to assure a safe passage over such a structure.
Do you have any idea when this bridge was built Jan?
