Photographer's Note

Greece: land of islands, sailing and lazy waterfont days. Just a few steps from this ferry landing, we found a hotel with a waterfront view. Escaping the World Cup Finals in Athens, we arrived on Poroas with big plans of great access to other places. While we did go to Hydra and Aegina and take a bus around the island. Aside from those excursions, we only went places where we could walk: down to the big ferry landing, up the quay to watch the fisherman and to a restaurant at the top of the hill. We spent a lot of our time sitting at this waterfront cafe drinking expresso in the morning and wine in the evening.

The background umbrellas are for the ferry patrons and the hills are on the Peloponesian Pennisula. Larry's hydrofoil photo was taken from here.

Hello Patricia,
It's the warm glow what shines under the tree that makes the picture. It's an absolute stunning mood that is created by that light and i am impressed by the details in the foreground and on the terrace.
A fine and strong composed image...very good work.

the right recipe for relaxation, that's what emerge from your feeling about this trip. I think the everyone who visit Greece, leave it with this treasure in his own heart.

Excellent exposure control with backlight not disturbing and all details of the scene very clear in a golden light. Interesting compo with the tree covering the sky almost exactly.. Good timing in catching the man on the left side.. he leads us into the scene..

Pat, the warm colors that are coming from behind the trees are really giving that feeling of some dreaming moment. A warm greek afternoon getting ready for a steamy greek night ... Quite impressive mood!

Simply loved the light you captured...so sublime!...and we can see the shades of it in the sky. Love the man 'haloed' by the golden light in the FG. You've used the tree branch well to block the sun. Well composed and a delightful image, with lots of things to savour in the FG.

What I like the most in this photo is the light glow around the man. It highlights his presence and creates a very good point of interest. The terrace looks superb and with a sunset like that I believe it was always a good reason to stay longer and enjoy another drink. This is what I would do. Well done.

Hello Pat! This is what went through my mind without reading your note before, lazy evenings at the waterfront, with some ouzo in the glass, do nothing else but watching the people passing by, talk about what they wear (okay, you are right, for this you need a girl and not a man by your side) and see the boats land. The little vacation pleasures we all wait for, year after year :) This is what a good quality photo makes, letting us bring back memories, feel something ... Have a good Sunday, Barbara.

Hello Pat -

This is a wonderful image and grand observation on your part to see it and it's potential. I really like the OE of the sun behind the trees and the golden haze. The restaurant activities in the FG give this image life. The inclusion of the walker just added more depth. I like it the way it is but I don't know why I am adding a WS to lighten ever so lightly the foreground.

Very relaxing day's end scene of this lovely outdoor cafe. The setting sun renders beautiful soft tones of gold over the inviting restaurant tables. Looks like the perfect spot to enjoy a little glass of wine. Very calm mood struck here.

Hi Pat. What a catch Pat! The lighting is hard to get much better than that and I love the man in the lower left and the way the backlight is doing some good things there. I might like to see more of the top and left edges of the trees though. tfs Pat!
