Photographer's Note
Our TE friend Mariusz has been posting a few Shipwrecks lately, so this has inspired me to post a few of my own.
But with a little twist.
Instead of the classic shipwreck, how about a 'shipwrecked' 'left for dead' piece of heavy machinery.
If you know me at all, you know I have a passion for such abandoned subjects, cars, homes, boats, buildings, anything left to rot, and I'll be there.
Iceland, especially when you drive the rural areas, has alot of these beauties laying around. They're simple rusting away, sadly left unclaimed.
When I found this one, I said to myself i'll come back in the evening hours and capture it during the Blue Hour. How crazy am I for doing that?? But I love these scenes, they're special and unique.
It was VERY dark, so I used the headlights of my rental car to illuminate the machine, at least this way I can focus on something and lock it in.
Hope you enjoy it
In the WS is another subject that I found during the daytime, very close by.

Hello craig
A beautiful view of this crane left alone. I agree with you and I love metal machines and structures. I like this picture and you captured it well. Thanks for sharing

Hello Craig,
I am aware of your obsession with these things and you managed this one well, thanks to your car's headlight. The snow clad hill in the distance is a good part of the picture. I actually find the whale skeleton in the WS more interesting, but as a photo it doesn't have the same impact.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hi Craig,
The composition is well divided, the sky, the machinery and the ground. Using a tripod and a slow shutter-speed is showing the details of the abandoned machinery. The blue hour light has a special effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Craig,
The skeleton in the WS has already received many visitors, witness the footprints in the sand (or volcanic ash).
With the headlights of your car you could bring more colour and contrast in the photo.
I like the view of the snow capped peaks under the plain blue sky.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Craig,
Illumination with car light works perfectly. No overexposed spots and good balance with blue hour light. Good framing. It was very easy to guess this is in Iceland, even before seeing those snowy peaks.

Hello Craig,
I wonder if you found it difficult to locate the abandoned vehicle in the darkness!
Your headlights were very useful! They added a very mysterious light, giving the vehicle a strange sense of attraction! It seems to be in a spotlight, when the sky is darkening!
The loneliness and dereliction are without doubt!
A hypnotic scene!
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hello Craig,
A great photo of this old, abandoned piece of machinery in the middle of nowhere. It is nicely lit and has a nice and warm glow, which makes a great contrast with the deep blue sky. Also the snowy peaks in the distance are a good bonus.

Hi Craig, two great photos, the whale is a big scoop but this set with the rusty bulldozer in the blue hour, in fact, is a little crazy like you ... ehhee ... but these are the things that make the difference between a any photographer and one always looking for something different, a really great shot! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Craig,
Thanks for mentioning my shipwreck.
Yes some motifs are so photogenic. This little crane certainly is. Yes I was wondering what the light source could be ha ha
I suppose you could have left it as a dark silhouette as well.
I like the panorama in the distance, the mountains well decorated with the snow.
The sky has of course the perfect blue hour tone.
The workshop is quite intriguing as well.
I hope there were no human bones there though :)
