Photographer's Note
Please check out the beautiful Beta Version Beautiful Nature & Abandonement.
I've been waiting to post this photo for awhile now, glad I finally got to it.
If there's one way to sum up Rural Iceland, this is it. Beautiful landscapes, isolation, and abandoned homes. This is what I love most about Iceland, you can literally drive around for hours and hardly see anybody. Its such a different type of holiday than almost any other place you visit.
This is another one of those photos where I slept in my car, I woke up super early and captured the soft morning light. Well worth the effort, and hey, it makes for a good story too :) Because of the stream, I couldn't get any closer to the building, which is a shame, but it just wasn't possible.
Seeing the mountains, the abandoned home which is now just a shell, the stream, its breath taking and no photo could do this place justice. I wish you could have all seen it in person.
I'll post a WS photo, and I'll try to find the approx location on the map so you can see which part of the country this was taken.
thanks for looking

Hello Craig ,
This is here a beautiful wild icelandic landscape , with the old ruin as a strong focal element . You've chosen to give a large place for the pond in the Fg , I suppose that the sky was not very interesting .

Hello Craig,
It is not totally different from some of your abandoned Scottish castles in wild sceneries, if I remember them reasonably well. The stream makes quite a nice foreground, so it didn't matter much that you couldn't get any closer. Nice photos all three of them.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Craig,
The now roofless house is well placed in the frame and makes a most interesting focal point. The little stream with its delightful reflections of the sky serves to give the composition depth and perspective. The soft morning light and the colours it engenders are very pleasant to view and enhance the feeling of peace and serenity.

Hello Craig,
Copenhagen and Vancouver must have similar rainy weather. But I was lucky on both counts. Blue skies in both BC & Denmark. Wasn't so lucky in Verona, Italy though. Good reflections of the blue sky here. The old roofless abandoned house at right makes a fine focal point. Tfs!

Hello Craig,
The ruin building between the nice landscape is a nice addition.
Also lovely reflections of the clouds in the small Lake.
Create depth and perspective too.
Sharpness and clarity are superb.
Composition and presentation be pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,
John.

The overwhelming landscape scenery is "compensating" for the old abandoned house, Craig.
The far mountains ridge, grey and snow on top contrasting the beautiful green and the water pond in the FG.
Simple yet wonderful.
Good afternoon,

Hello Craig, the derelict building on the horizon is the perfect focal point. It stands proud and contrasts beautifully with the naturally formed mountains.
The fg stream with its' reflections of the sky adds light to the composition.
Regards Jean.

Hello Craig.
The landscape is impressive, nature in all its splendor, but I am not surprised to see these abandoned houses, because I can not imagine the harshness of winter in these remote places, the opportunities of work, will also be scarce ....
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this beautiful image.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Craig,
You may wonder why people decided to abandon such beauty, but the isolation might very well drive some people mad at some point. The mountain landscape is so gorgeous and you placed the outline of the old house so well next to it, it almost really becomes one with nature. The soft light is wonderful indeed.

Hello Craig,
This scene is reminiscent of ruins in the UK. I like all the greenery, and the stream in the foreground. I know it must have been frustrating for you not to be able to get closer to that ruin. Ha ha! There are so many isolated spots with houses in Iceland. It's peaceful, but for a city girl like me it's also a bit creepy!

Hi Craig,
the stream makes a fantastic foreground here and behind there is so much going on!
There is the house but also the mountains and the glacier in between.
Fantastic reportage.
This place feels so wild. Europe and still very much a wilderness.
I think I will have to make a trip there someday!

Hello Craig, When you slept in the car, you not only could see this early morning view (probably it was not so comfortable so you woke up) but also you could save some money for the hotel. This abandoned house looks a bit like a castle in Scotland. You couldn't approach it closer but what about the drone? I would be interested to see this glacier closer.
Kind regrad s Malgo
