Photographer's Note
We're on the road to nowhere...
That's the feeling I got many times while driving around in Iceland.
They were long and curvy, going up and down and all around, never really seeming to arrive to any distinctive place. Only paved in a few places (besides for the ring road) and taking you through long and wide valleys, along fjords and across high mountains.
My tribute to the roads that took us to the most amazing sights, through the most amazing passages and across that most amazing island, without ever loosing their humility and earthy quality.
This picture of a typical icelandic road was hard to format for online viewing as it is quite light in its original version. It shouldn't be a problem as such but since I'm viewing it on a laptop as soon as I change my position by a mere centimeter it becomes completely different. Very frustrating.
I've tried to play around with a number of versions and hope that this one does not seem too boring on your screen. I welcome any WS ideas :D
We were coming down from a 676m high mountain, descending into the valley, onto our way to the beach of Sæból by the Önundarfjörður (fjord) in the West fjords.
As we pierced through the low clouds and as the late night sun managed to still shine atop the mountains, the road below us shone in soft golden tones while the valley across turned blue with the evening shadow descending upon it.
A short moment, a quick picture and a deep sigh.
Thank You for passing by.
An advance Thank You for all those amongst you who take the time to criticize and/or leave a comment.

Hi Julia, beautiful and unusual shot. that long snake in the green mounts is well captured from a good POV and with a nice composition without the sky.
good colours, contrast and light.
thanks, ciao

Ciao Julia, I like your composition here with the scenographic "snaking" road.
Good colours and sharpness too!

Hi Julia,
Nice shot! Although there is no real sky on the picture, one can guess it because of the remaining dust of clouds ... the road really seems to me like in harmony with nature, almost a natural part of the scenery, like endlessly lost in earth ...
Great !!!

It looks great on my screen Julia. The composition of this photo is great. I love the strange curve of the road, along with the endless green land at the top of the picture. Well done, and very interesting.

Ryan

Salut Julia,

Hi Julia
nice picture, I like how only the clouds make up for the top of the frame and you have excluded the sky. The focus on the single road is good too.
Good job

Hi Julia,
The title reminds me on a song from the Talking Heads, and seeing this, the song is now playing inside my head....thank you ;-)
Seeing this is putting the next questions, where to, how long, where is the horizon? All these kind of questions makes this picture very pleasant to see for me....keeps me wondering where to it leads.
I put Iceland higher on my list...thanks again..!!!

Hello Julia,
Daniel.

Julia, you are a very passionate and talented person. Your images are well concieved and your notes well expressed. Love the way you have composed this image without a horizon line. Exquisite color pallette. Cheers,

Hi Julia,
A very lovely, soft, and dreamy picture. I like your composition, which includes much beyond the road itself, and gives a feel of the landscape.
