Photographer's Note
I never would have thought the Vatican Museum would house sculpture such as this. I imagined long hallways full of Medieval and Renaissance masters, only to find a courtyard of modern art. In this photo, I was especially struck by the pattern and texture of the sculptured acorn against the clouds. The only alteration I've made from the original photograph was to crop a distracting red circle near the base of the sculpture.

Hello Lindsey,
I believe the acorn was featured in Julius 2nd's Coat of Arms, and when Raffaelo painted his portrait, he included the acorns in his throne, so the Vatican goes back a long way with this papal symbol. I love your shot, I recall it too when I was in the Vatican.
Great design, nice crop in front of the clear sky!
:-)
