Photographer's Note
In November 2004, my mother came to visit me in Europe and we rented a car and went to Genoa to see the town of our ancestors (Pieve Ligure 12KM East of Genoa)
In this particular day we took the bus into town which took forever but went through a winding road, and as we were approaching the train station I saw this view and I said: we are getting off. My mom was not very happy as it was lonely, cold, windy and a semi industrial wasteland going towards the station with rail tracks on the right. But I am really happy to have gone out as I really like this view of the city with the newer town in the foreground and the old town and snow cappped mountains in the background. I have posted as a ws a general view of the plae from where I took the picture.
I know its an Italian city that does not rank high in people's lists, but I think its untouristiness and old elegance, dynamism, port, old city make it an interesting place to spend a few days.

Nice image Daniel and great note.
i'm agree with you, Genova is not famous as touristic city, but no-one outside Italy know that the city centre of Genova, built in the last 2000 years is the world biggest city centre, and all preserved by Unesco!
there are hundreds of fantastic palaces, churches, cathedral, museums...Also in Italy is not well considered at despite for the Aquarium. so it's really nice go around without tourist in the city centre.
and finally the Ligurian food is one of the best of Italy!
thanks, ciao

Hi Daniel,
What an unusual contrast of so many houses and the snow capped mountains. This must be what is attractive about this place.I like the clarity and variety of tones and the background is a nice breather. Glad you stopped to take this shot. Well done! All the best.

A super shot, the snow capped mountains make a great contrasting background to that of the busy city. Great composition and sharpness too. Also very informative!
Thankyou!

Great point of view that you found Daniel. I like the mix of old and new here in the compression of space giving nice layers to the shot. The detail is excellent, too. I like the roughness that that sharpness pulls out of the buildings. I agree with you about Genova. Not on most peoples' radars when visiting Italy but probably tied for the absolute favorite cities I've ever visited. I certainly wouldn't mind living there.

Hi Daniel - a random find today, I like this and thought it needss more praise, being an unusual shot because of the snow covered peaks, I like the crop here, even thougfh of course the quality got sacrificed, the original was a bit messy. and I happen to like Genoa as long as I don't accidentally step on a used discarded syringe!
