One evening in the salt evaporation pond, a photo from Cagliari, Sardegna

Photographer's Note

(for Lisa, who likes saline)

Here you can see the salt evaporation ponds (Saline) of Cagliari. They are situated in between the city and the long beach of Poetto, where a large coastal lagoon existed (see map link for the exact location). The actual plants go back to 1800 but it𠏋 since the Roman times that salt was extracted here. After two millennia in 1985 they have been abandoned and now the whole place is being utilized as a public park.
In the background of the photo to the right you can see one of the landmark of Cagliari: the promontory of Capo Sant葕lia which marks the beginning of Poetto beach and which is visible practically from everywhere in Cagliari. On top of it you may notice a crescent indentation: that𠏋 called 尞a sella del diavolo� (The devil𠏋 saddle) and there is a nice legend which explains this curious name. caro donato le saline hanno sempre esercitato un gran fascino purtroppo ne ho visitata solo una quelle du gran roi in camargue ma devo dire che queste di cagliari sono molto affascinanti
mi piacerrebbe percorrere quello strato di terra in mezzo alla salina per scattare qualche bella foto

Non sono mai stanca di vedere queste saline cosi ben catturato. I toni morbidi - specialemente quelle rose sono romantichi e favolosi. Incredibile la prospettiva e le linee diagonale. I riflessi sono luminosi, la scena fammi sospire, e' davvero squisita. Complimenti, e alle 6:20 di mattina e tu hai creato una bella commincia alla mia giornata!

Hello Donato,

This is such a co-incidence, after just watching a documentary on the salt evaporation beds of England!

You have taken a fine pov creating a strong f/g triangle a good sense of perspective, from the receding lines. I love how the light on the water, produces warm reflections and reveals the gently moving, textural ripples.

Je retrouve ici les m瘱es techniques que j'ai pu observer sur les photos de notre ami Didi, � Gruissan, au niveau de la couleur de l'eau 嶲alement...
Une belle et int廨essante prise de vue sur ces salines, la perspective est tr鋊 bonne et cette lumi鋨e ajoute une atmosph鋨e agr嶧ble au paysage. Bon coup d'oeil Donato et merci pour la note instructive.

You have have shown us several fine photos from these ponds and this is one of the most atmospheric of those. A good POV, which has resulted in an excellent sense of perspective. The alternating calm and rippled areas of the water surface is a nice ingredient in this shot. The reddish reflections are beautiful. The clarity and depth are perfect. I like the peaceful atmosphere. TFS!

Ciao Donato. This is a very interesting composition. The diagonal leads the eyes through the scene until meets the horizon and then we are again 'forced to follow the other line. The colors on the water are very nice and the sky is amazing. Sense of depth is enormous and sharpness is very good too. A great job.

The colours of the sky reflecting in the water is beautiful. Well composed with the diagonal of the aisle across the salt pans. Teh trick was to capture this shot in low light & the effect of the reflection is indeed beautiful!

This is a picture with long perspective and great depth afforded by the strong diagonal path which leads the eye into the far horizon, a good dynamism. Interesting shot of this salt pond. A very eye catching water refelction and lovely sheen of light of the surface that make this image special. Light management is splendid with enough clarity and contrast. A strong image and you have skillfully captured this all combined well to transform it to such a fine image. Compliments.

I suppose that this may not be a beautiful place in daylight but your superb composition with a very strong diagonal line and wonderful evening light and reflection makes it look great. Hi Donato,
I see you have reddish mud in Cagliari as can be found in much of the southeastern U.S.
The fast salt pond and long dam add great depth to this original scene.
The reflections of sky and mountains are quite stunning with mnay unique colors seen.

j'aime bien la compo de celle ci avec une ambiance melancolique avec des tons sombre et cette couleur boueuse le cadrage est parfais et l'effet de pronfondeur nous donne limpresion de marcher sur cette espece de pond
et le ciel est magnifique dans ce genre de bi-color. bravo

the open space creates a nice calmness
in this picture (good balance).

Ve l'ho sempre detto a te e a Baddori di andarci al tramonto alle saline, il riflesso e il cielo sono fondamentali qui...di giorno si riescono a strappare buoni scatti solo quando l'acqua � liscia come l'olio e il cielo e di quelli scozzesi!
Qui hai giocato bene sulla profondit�, come ho visto in altre occasioni sempre qui in salina, ma soprattutto hai trovato un bel modo originale di fondere il precipitato ramato degli ossidi di ferro con il riflesso magenta del tramonto, il risultato cos� noir � incisivo!
