Photographer's Note
This is the crowded fountain at the base of the Spanish Steps in Rome, Italy. "Fontana della Barcaccia (Fountain of the Old Boat/the No Good Boat)" From Wikipedia: "It is a Baroque fresh-water fountain in the Piazza di Spagna in Rome, Italy, just below the Spanish Steps. It is so named because it is in the shape of a half-sunken ship with water overflowing its bows. The fountain was commissioned by Pope Urban VIII and was completed in 1627 by Pietro Bernini and his son Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
The shape was chosen because, prior to the river walls being built, the Tiber often flooded and in 1598 there was a particularly bad flooding and the Piazza di Spagna was flooded up to a metre. Once the water withdrew, a boat was left behind in the square.
The English poet John Keats could hear the sound of the fountain's water flowing soothingly from his deathbed. He said it reminded him of lines from the 17th-century play Philaster, or Love Lies a-Bleeding (1611) and was the source for his epitaph: "Here lies one whose name was writ in water."

I am reminiscing about a hot summer's day in Rome when it's -20c in north Romania today! And any boat half full of water I would also describe as 'no good'! But this stone sculpture boat is okay.

Hello Chris,
Always a crowd at the Spanish Steps, except possibly in the middle of the night:-) I like the point of view looking across the impressive fountain toward the crowd of onlookers. Also, the light and colours excellent rendering of the textural detail. -20 is a bit nippy, roll on summer!

Never saw this place empty of tourists, Chris.
Yet, people gave a vivid and vibrant texture to the place - by itself a marvelous art-work.
Used well the variable light conditions.
Cheers & good evening,
Ike

Ciao Chris
sulla scalinata e intorno a questa fontana c'è sempre una folla incredibile e anche la tua foto lo testimonia.
Bello osservare i volti delle persone che hanno fisionomie molto diverse, ma è bello vedere che quasi tutti sorridono felici.
Felice anno nuovo

Hi Chris,
The presence of the crowd is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of ther fountain. The good luminosity is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Chris,
This is a very cute fountain. Good, tight framing that concentrates on the boat shaped structure without neglecting the crowds of spectators around it. Very nicely rendered!
Happy 2015,
MT
