Castle of Ceselli - Scheggino (PG)
Pontifical castle from the XIII-XIV century on the right bank of the river Nera (317 m). Its name, like that of the nearby villa of Cese in the municipality of Spoleto, probably derives from the Latin "caedere", which means cutting and deforesting. The oral tradition attributes the foundation to the feudatory Cesello, mitigating the early medieval origin of the castle built to defend the fiefdom of San Pietro in Valle, entrusted to the lords of Ceselli, vassals of the dukes of Spoleto. An older settlement stood a little further upstream, there are only a few remains of walls and the ruins of the ancient church dedicated to Sant'Angelo (in the photo), dependent on the plebate of Civitella. The church of San Michele Arcangelo dominates the town, depending too on the plebate of Civitella, built in the XIV century using the polygonal tower of the castle as apse, later transformed into a bell tower. The building has been remodeled and enlarged several times until it assumes the current appearance of a single nave church with side altars. The nineteenth-century arrangement, taking advantage of the pronounced gradient of the square, has emphasized the grandeur of the fa蓷de preceded by a staircase

Hello Silvio,
It's a very nice view. The steps lined with red bricks lead my eyes perfectly up the hill to the chapel, and create fine depth on their way. The photo is beautifully sharp and clear, but of course it's the dog that steals the show entirely.

The dog makes a beautiful focal point before our eyes move up the cobbled street toward the church. The whole is perfectly exposed with superb colours and clarity. Lots of lovely well rendered textural detail.

A watch-dog on guard, Silvio, but it looks calm and very sure of himself / herself.

Its a dog's life! This dog looks well fed and cared for & very relaxed. The uphill stairs provide strong lead in lines and linear perspective towards the charming bg castle and chapel. Tfs!

This is a beautifully composed photograph!
The dog makes a great focal point, anchoring the f/g and then all the features are perfectly placed to ensure a steady progression up the hill to the steps, leading to the church.
The details are remarkably sharp, with equally crisp colours.
