Photographer's Note

Church of San Salvatore - Manciano di Trevi (PG)rnThe Church of San Salvatore is located near the town, near the tiny cemetery, and is also known as the new Santo Stefano.rnFrom the reports of Bishop De Lunel's visit we learn that the inhabitants of Manciano did not want the old and run-down abbey of Santo Stefano to be repaved, wishing to have a church located in a more convenient position and closer to the town.rnThe new church, erected in 1595, as indicated by the ceramic inserted above the entrance door, was dedicated to the Savior.rnEven today, the people of Manciano celebrate Saint Stephen as their patron saint, while in September, with a final celebration on the last Sunday of the month, they solemnize the Madonna del Rosario.rnThe church has a simple exterior, the fa蓷de is gabled, with a simple brick portal, above a ceramic bearing the date of construction, a large rectangular window opens at the top; another is on the right wall.rnAt the back there is a large apse and, again at the rear, on the left a large bell gable with double arches.rnThe interior has a single room, divided into three bays.rnOn the left wall, in a niche there is a modern statue of the Madonna. The apse is frescoed with an image of the Madonna enthroned with the Child between curtain-holding angels, above God the Father and the Holy Spirit, below a series of saints.rnThe altar table is supported by an ancient capital.rnOn the right wall there is a fresco of a Madonna and Child.
