Circular courtyard

The door in front of the entrance leads to the internal courtyard of the Palazzo Farnese, which has the shape of a circle inscribed in the pentagonal plan of the building. This solution was adopted by Vignola, after having discarded a polygonal configuration, to vary the architectural form between exterior and interior. Its construction, which began around 1560, was definitively completed in 1579.
