Church of San Clemente al Vomano - Notaresco (TE)

The church of San Clemente al Vomano, also known as the abbey of San Clemente al Vomano, stands on the top of a small hill on the left bank of the Vomano river, near Guardia Vomano di Notaresco. The abbey complex belonged to the Benedictine order who had both the church and the monastery here.
The foundation of the monastery of San Clemente is not historically documented, it is believed to date back to the second half of the 9th century, corresponding to the notable development of Benedictine monasticism in the Teramo valleys which saw the construction of other important monasteries including Santa Maria di Ronzano, San Salvatore of Canzano and Santa Maria di Propezzano.
