The archangels Michael and Gabriel - Diocesan Museum of Parma
Last from the Diocesan Museum of Parma.
The two statues of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, the work of Benedetto Ant鋩ami, adorned the north entrance door of the Baptistery towards Piazza Duomo.
The two Archangels occupied the two niches above the portal of the Virgin and were part of the great architectural project by Benedetto Antelami for the Baptistery of Parma. The sculpture of the Archangel Michael is a very rare example of reuse, since with the exception of the head and feet, it is probably a statue from the monuments of Roman Parma. The Archangel Gabriel is carved in the same stone, a Vicenza organogenic limestone, from which all the other statues of the Baptistery have been obtained.
