Casino of Pleasure Palazzo Farnese Caprarola (VT)
it is a building with a loggia, also called the Palazzina del Piacere, at the end of the ascent ramps to the third level of the gardens.
The project is attributed to Giovanni Antonio Garzoni da Viggi, Vignola's assistant, in the Farnese's service since 1564. The casino, most likely begun at the end of 1584 and initially equipped with a roof terrace in the center then lowered, is raised on a podium of four steps close to the terrace that supports the fourth level of the garden; consequently it has, on the valley side, two floors separated by a mighty string course both with a central loggia with three arches, those of the ground floor supported by pillars, those of the upper floor by columns in peperino: both loggias have frescoed vaults and walls; on the mountain side, on the other hand, only the upper floor overlooks, here too with a loggia with three arches supported by columns which is accessed via a flight of steps, with the vault and the walls frescoed. The loggias are framed by two elevations with kneeling windows, the ones on the upper floors more finely decorated.
Inside, the casino is divided on the ground floor on the valley side into six rooms, three rooms, the kitchen, the "wardrobe" and the "dining room" with the cave, where a rich cellar of wine bottles was kept; on the upper floor, in addition to the two loggias, there are four rooms and a small chapel with frescoes, attributed either to the Brescian painter Giovanni Antonio Mussi (Esposito 2002/1) or to Giuseppe Bastiani from Macerata (Raggi 2002).
