Photographer's Note
Every town has one, I guess. Volterra had quite a few gatekeepers who took time from their daily occupation to fulfill their true calling - that of watching the comings and goings of strangers.
Volterra is a beautiful (and ancient) city that should be included in any trip that brings you to the Tuscany/Pisa region. There are little shops and galleries that have some of the most unusual pieces in alabaster and other materials that we hadn't seen anywhere else.
Added note: You'll recognize a couple of the buildings and a different gate showing up in the movie, "Under the Tuscan Sun." I didn't see the Gatekeeper, though.
