Skyline Crossing, a photo from Siauliu, North

Photographer's Note

Another shot from the aptly named Hill of Crosses outside Siauliai, apart from the fact that the 'hill' is really a small mound with only about 30 steps to the summit. There were 343 steps to the tower lookout at Stephansplatz church in Vienna for comparison.

Here I liked the repetition of the darker crosses against the blue and white sky. The little crucifixion figures of Christ adorn the cross at right. The Soviet Russians bulldozed this site several times in 3 failed efforts to discourage locals from worship. Local churches were either blown up, or turned into art galleries, museums, discos and restaurants. Some of the priests were either shot or sent to Gulags.

it is a very beautiful sample of popular faith and the resistance against the evil. few days ago I saw another view from this place, I guess in the page of luis.

Impressive view of so many crosses, we can see here mainly Orthodox crosses, not so many Catholic crosses, new and old, very well captured against the sky

Fantastic this composition of the Hill of Crosses, is an amazing place, here the color tones of the crosses stand out wonderfully of the beautiful blue sky with white clouds, I have very bad weather threatening rain and the photos are very flat all gray.
